I have a lot of Hilton and Hyatt points.

Some Marriott, but not as many.

This is not that hard to understand - Hilton is not guilty here, just a partnership that operates hotels under various franchises. Boycotting all Hiltons is unfair, but I'd smile if the particular hotels owned by that partnership suddenly burned to the ground.

Hilton cut ties with this hotel group and removed them from their network

The real loser in this could be the local community...

Hampton (a Hilton property) is roughly on the same tier as Fairfield and Holiday Inn Express, but (and this is assuming there isn't one of those others nearby already, and there likely is) there are subtle yet fairly significant differences between the ones that they might not be able to rebrand/rebadge all that easily. Go into enough of them and they all have a small handful of fundamental floor plans. I've walked into hotels I've never stayed in before and already knew the elevators are down the hall to the left then on the right, because three other Holiday Inn Express' use the exact same floorplan.

So losing the Hampton name, one of the other chains might not be willing to let them franchise because even with the required new paint, new carpet, and new wall decor it still won't look/feel like one of their properties.

So it's now destined to be a completely independent hotel and lose A LOT of brand recognition travel, or become a very low tier property like a Best Western.

You are probably right.

Except a whole bunch of people with the last name Patel.

Those guys are probably the biggest losers.

But, the local community right after Mr. Patel.

Yes, they are guilty. Just because it is franchise doesn't let them off the hook. However, they also deserve credit for fixing it in a timely manner. I split my time between Marriott and Hilton, and this isn't likely to impact it either way.

So in the video, the guy filming is alleging that Hilton LIED and did NOT instruct the franchisee to reverse course and allow ICE agents to stay there.

But that's not what I saw - the dopey 15-year old looking front desk kid only said that the owners "didn't tell him about any reversal to policy."
Seemed like the guy filming (and some posters on this thread) are trying to claim that Hilton lied and never told the franchisee to stop, when that was not at all proven in the video.

I guess I'm confused on two things. One, why are some claiming that the video is proof that Hilton lied, and two, why is Hilton saying that the video shows that the franchisee didn't reverse their policy as promised? Isn't it possible the dumb kid at the desk missed the memo/didn't comprehend? I guess if that's the case, Hilton could still take the stance that the franchisee should have made sure that whoever they had at the front desk the day after the debacle would know what to say.

Well, the kid said that he had just talked to the owner of the building and he didn't say there was any change to the policy...

So, he had talked to the owner AFTER the "new policy" of allowing DHS to stay was supposedly implemented but the owner didn't TELL the person working the front desk of that "new policy"? Why not? Seems like that would be one of the FIRST things you'd do if you wanted to implement the "new policy"....
You can turn off signatures, btw

7) We just gave Homan 10 million Hilton points for ICE to use. (That sounds like a huge number, but it is like 100 - 200 free nights total, which is a small cost to sweep this under the rug).

...or 33 nights at the Grand Wailea in Maui.

Seems like half the hotels in the US are owned by Hilton. This will be a difficult boycott.

I'm 100% certain I'll be successful boycotting them.

After seeing how Hilton has reacted i dont understand this. Can you please explain your logic?

seems to me that their actions should if anything cause people to support Hilton, not boycott them. Seems silly.

what about the other brands opened by the franchise? Will you also boycott them?

I posted that before their response. Good for them. I prefer marriott over Hilton to be honest.

Maybe before you read their response, but their response was early this AM, several hours ahead of your 1133am CT post.

Understandable, and much more fun that F5'ing here. They posted something like 655am or so that the franchise misled them and subsequently the franchise was revoked. Speed of light for a big corp as far as I am concerned.

That's good 'cause I really didn't want to start over. If Marriott offered me a swap like the airlines used to do, I'd probably do it on principle.

Those hotels are all franchises under an IHG contract. The franchise agreements for all of the major hotel brands are absolutely insanely strict. We had a client that was secured lender to a group that owned several Marriott branded properties who filed for ch.11. Marriott showed up to burn down their franchise arrangement lickety split.

Even if you're staying at one of their lowest tier brands, there's still a strict set of standards and rules that the property owner must follow. And following those requirements are almost always part of the lending covenants with their secured lender.

So whatever franchisee was pulling that crap likely defaulted on their loans and breached their franchise agreement to the extent of immediate termination.

Unless you're some super high end property, you've basically got a bang-n-run without the franchise label.

Life is not fair. Especially if you are dumb or let dumbasses represent your brand.

So Hilton does the right thing by nuking the franchise, but they should still be destroyed?

Never said that. But again you love to jump to bad conclusions. Everspeak is dumb and Hilton may be acting too slowly. If Hilton is not careful they could be Bud Lit.

Will say that Hilton should be more aggressive, rip down there flag where needed, and distance themselves from bad apples.

They acted within 24 hours and have distanced themselves by firing these foreigner clowns. That's pretty damn fast.

Will probably take a few days to remove the sign from the building though.

Good for Hilton.

Only happened after Nick Sortor's interaction with the front desk clerk was released.

Is it Hilton, or do they have properties that are franchised that are coordinating locally?

If this is the case, Hilton Corp needs to step in a begin the smackdown. If not (or if the do nothing in the former), they should expect a YUGE backlash.

I think the majority are franchised; and the Garden Inns have them some Indian owners.

This whole thing is weird. Seems like Hilton absolutely took swift and appropriate action here, but the execution of the details of the termination appear to be a cluster.
If I'm the CEO or head PR guy, I'm pissed that we keep thinking we pulled the plug yet all these little events are still happening - front desk unaware of change, three days later your Hilton Honors number still being requested and functioning. Somebody push the "nuclear" button for Pete's sakes.

Yeah, HIlton seems to have done the right thing after Everpeak reverted on their pledge, but I'd give them a day or two on the IT system access/fixes.

Also, we don't know the terms of the franchise revocation and they could have access to the system to service prior reservations made there through HIlton because points and you don't want to have your reservation just canceled.
