I wonder to what extent this caught Talarico off-guard. Of course I have been following Talarico closely. I don't know much of anything about Crockett, other than she has been outspoken, controversial, and pretty far left (correct me if I'm wrong). Which has led to her being a kind of minor star on the far left.

Talarico on the other hand is more centrist, practical, incorporates discussion of religious ethics and his own Christianity. Much more Texas-based, having been a state representative in the state government. A rising star in the Democratic Party in his own right.

It was a little interesting last night to read a FB post asking for money from Talarico in the wake of the Crockett announcement and the need to win the primary against her, and then reading the comments. Many people were saying "I wish I could vote for you both." Or, "you should now run for governor instead." Or, "I was going to send money to you now, but I regret to say that I will now be supporting Crockett." Who knows if these are actually real people or bots or disinformation actors.

A well-fought well-executed primary can make a candidate stronger. However will Talarico now have to hew left in order to win the primary? Or can a more centrist candidate win? The GOP has the same dilemma. Vote for far-right MAGA tainted Paxton, or "moderate MAGA" Cornyn?

My support for Democrats doesn't come from a place of "I love Democrats." It comes from the place of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." I.e. anti-MAGA.

I will definitely be supporting Talarico.

I know he's popular here, but Paxton is incredibly polarizing. His being the GOP nominee would be the Texas Democrat's best opportunity to pick up a Senate seat in forty years, yet they are going to double down on Jazzy.

Talarico isn't going to win the dem nomination by moving leftists further right, he's going to win the nomination by moving people who think they are moderate, further left.

Moderates always move things farther left. A vote for a "centrist" is a vote for a liberal. Slapping the "moderate" logo on them just makes people feel better about it.

Talarico is doing a great job of convincing people he's a pragmatic politician, when his record says anything but.

He's a true throw-back politician (con-man).

My skin crawls when he talks about his faith. He desperately wants the Bible-belt vote, so he just changes the meaning...problem solved....'his' faith.

For some reason, people have lost the ability to think critically, and weigh a person's comments against their actions. They just vote for good/motivational speakers.

If so... "You love Democrats." The idea you know about Talarico and support him, indicates you are a committed Leftist.

I find it hard to believe you don't know anything about Crockett. Maybe you don't know as much about her as you have studied Talarico, but even I know Crockett and I'm in DFW and find Democrats to be ... insufficient in reason and idea. She is the poster of the Democrat Party.

Both will lose. Talarico offers as much Christian perspective as Mitt Romney.

But he's got to make it through the primary. And Sheila Jackson Crockett would make Paxton competitive in the general election.

Surely Crockett wins the primary, right? She is much higher on the DEI ladder but he might jump a rung or two when he comes out of the closet.

The only place I hear about Crockett is here on Texags. And I haven't paid attention to those threads.

Why? The reason I suspect is that the far right media uses her as a foil. So if you follow far right media, then you've seen a lot about her. Whereas the left/centrist media does not talk about her very much at all.

I don't follow far right media.

Another example is this: how come so many MAGA people here claimed to have never heard of Fuentes? I had seen LOTS of stuff on Fuentes prior to Kirk's death. Because the left/centrists use Fuentes as a foil and warn about the danger of his ideology. Whereas right wing media (until recently) pretended like he didn't exist, and certainly didn't warn their consumers about him.

I wish Cornyn would just go away already. It sucks we continually get stuck voting for that RINO because of a bunch of squishy independents that vote in the primary. The Texas Republican Party is a joke. A bunch of democrats in sheep's clothing.
