DOGE 'doesn't exist' with eight months left on its charter

DOGE started with a bang with great hope but then ended with a whimper with no one knowing. I was thrilled when it was announced but when Musk went about it in a crazy manner, I know it wouldn't last long.

I hope they helped more than they damaged. The Government needed to be slimmed down, but done carefully, not in the idiotic fashion and by antagonizing everyone else.

Vivek was smart to quit this train-wreck before his name got muddied. He wouldn't have been able to work with Elon, heck even Trump could not stand him.

Exclusive: DOGE 'doesn't exist' with eight months left on its charter

Quote:

WASHINGTON, Nov 23 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency has disbanded with eight months left to its mandate, ending an initiative launched with fanfare as a symbol of Trump's pledge to slash the government's size but which critics say delivered few measurable savings.

"That doesn't exist," Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor told Reuters earlier this month when asked about DOGE's status.

It is no longer a "centralized entity," Kupor added, in the first public comments from the Trump administration on the end of DOGE.

The agency, set up in January, made dramatic forays across Washington in the early months of Trump's second term to rapidly shrink federal agencies, cut their budgets or redirect their work to Trump priorities. The OPM, the federal government's human resources office, has since taken over many of DOGE's functions, according to Kupor and documents reviewed by Reuters.

At least two prominent DOGE employees are now involved with the National Design Studio, a new body created through an executive order signed by Trump in August. That body is headed by Joe Gebbia, co-founder of Airbnb, and Trump's order directed him to beautify government websites.

Gebbia was part of billionaire Elon Musk's DOGE team while DOGE employee Edward Coristine, nicknamed "Big Balls," encouraged followers on his X account to apply to join.

The fading away of DOGE is in sharp contrast to the government-wide effort over months to draw attention to it, with Trump, his advisers and cabinet secretaries posting about it on social media. Musk, who led DOGE initially, regularly touted its work on his X platform and at one point brandished a chainsaw to advertise his efforts to cut government jobs.

"This is the chainsaw for bureaucracy," Musk said, holding the tool above his head at the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, in February.
DOGE claimed to have slashed tens of billions of dollars in expenditures, but it was impossible for outside financial experts to verify that because the unit did not provide detailed public accounting of its work.

Interesting.

This is being announced by many news orgs. Google it.

Anyway, I think DOGE as an org is done. He says "DOGE principles will live on..." yeah sure.

Fair enough. Last I saw, DOGE was still reporting stuff on twitter, so I don't think it's completely dead.

No, this ain't true. It's not done. Watch the Rogan Musk podcast a few weeks ago.

Fooling yourself if you think doge or even the doge principles aren't done for. Eliminating the org and trying to do the same thing through existing departments will never work.

Once again Trump abandons something he started because he's incompetent and can't take the heat. It was literally the best thing he could have been doing for 4 years.

Trump was never serious about it. Nothing but rhetoric to get votes.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I was really excited about DOGE because I thought with this administration's leadership, some significant changes would happen. But, now the shine has worn out. The left scared Elon and he quit. Nothing significant really happened. Yah, sure they created $214,000,000 in tax payer savings - but where did the money go? It sure doesn't feel like they're tightening the budget or reducing our national debt.

All things considered, DOGE was a big disappointment. It was run like some of these crazy tech companies with a clueless boss. I don't even know if the savings were real or they lied to us. I really thought Musk would be more professional considering he is self made and the richest man (so he must have something to him)

It's easy for the media and the left to attack one target.

It takes a lot more effort and resources to attack a bunch of diverse targets...

DOGE was a spectacular failure and embarrassment for everyone involved.

long story short, one conman hired another to over-promise on spending cuts, break a bunch of ****, lie relentlessly to pretend he could even achieve 10% of the savings he promised, and meekly quit while calling trump a pedo on the way out.

all this while trump increased government spending even more.

The problem with DOGE was after they turned of USAID and unused software licenses, they ran out the experience needed to tackle the true waste in government. That waste within government agencies is in their org structures and decision making processes.

DOGE still exists. The audits continue, and there are people in every department who have been put there to figure out ways to trim the fat.

Its a monstrous task but we have people taking massive pat cuts versus what they could make in the private sector to try to save this country. I listened to the guy in charge of modernizing technology at the IRS and Treasury department and the mountains of efficiency are staggering, let alone the fraud.

What a clownish, smug post. Looks like someone is upset that DOGE gutted his/her worthless parties honeypot in USAID. Sorry they aren't spreading that gay ass globohomo crap, your side calls "democracy", around the world anymore. The tr***y's in South Africa will just have to do without having their ***ks chopped off. The DNC has to take loans out now that they can't steal taxpayer money from USAID through NGO's. Elon and DOGE hit a big nerve there. It was obvious when your side threw a humongous fit. Gutting USAID was a big success and was more than I would have thought they could accomplish in such a short amount of time. That was a big hit to the establishments gravy train. As others on this thread, that are in the know, said, there is still a lot going on behind the scenes. Without Elon there, the spotlight isn't on them anymore, which is good. It will take years to go through all of that garbage, that was heaped on us by the worthless, establishment politicians that you support.

I seriously doubt the wealthiest man in the world was "scared" out. More likely IMO, he became frustrated by realizing that nothing meaningful would actually be done…and he was right about that. He probably decided it was a waste of his time and nether side will do anything about our morbidly obese govt. Might as well go back to working on getting to Mars. I don't blame him one bit.

And I disagree with OP about using the scalpel VS the chainsaw. It's so out of control at this point that there's no other way that will work. Look at SNAP. It couldn't be more obvious that this monstrosity needs to be eliminated altogether yet we can't even cuti a sliver.

Doge isn't dead. The right just realized you can't broadcast your success and smear it in the lefts face while doing so. Obama was the best at this. He just quietly did the dirty work. No fanfare, no spotlight, just his administration reworking the system to benefit them over 8 years.

Musk was perfect for this role if they could have just been quiet and not bragged about it. The result of shutting these fraud programs down would be the same but you wouldn't have the media running defense at every turn.

Agreed. This was my first thought yesterday when reading this thread.

We were never going to cut big infrastructure spending that would change the trajectory of our debt. Been saying that since day one. It's laughably delusional if anyone thought DOGE would accomplish this especially considering the Republicans have said they are not going to - it's in their policy plank that they are not going to.

However, I doubt any of us were truly aware of the scope of corruption and money laundering that the USAID program was....even though we know it happens. The obvious downside of this is that Democrats will simply bring it all back ASAP because Congress won't make these cuts permanent. Guess we get a few years reprieve at least.

USAID etc. was worth more than any single other thing that happened in the first 6 months of Trump. Slowing the fed govt's cycling of spending to almost exclusively one party was a triumph of cleaning up some of the excesses of the swamp.

Look at your party's coffers now and tell me I am wrong. :-)

But I would have supported this if were the Reps getting the money as well.

I suspect a lot of the problem with going forward is the lack of Republican Senators and Congressmen actually moving the ball, that is on neither Musk nor Doge.

YouBet and SwanSong beat me to it!!!

They tried for the overwhelming momentum big public splash to bull through a bunch of changes and cuts and the Dems reacted like spoiled sociopathic children and even the public got bent out of shape when their own personal sacred cow of government got targeted.

So, they went underground and subtle with it instead.

DOGE was nothing more than a tool Trump used to fire up his base. An il-informed base………because anyone who knew the congressional laws behind agency funding knew it couldn't save any meaningful money.

Sure…….it could stop a specific project from being funded, but the money BY LAW would remain with the department/agency to be spent in a different manner.

It was smoke and mirrors……..and even ole Elon seemed oblivious to the realities of American law.
