Anyone who is invested in the future of AI cannot be all in on climate change. The energy requirements to progress those tools cannot be met with green energy. Remember it was Microsoft that purchased the Three Mile Island facility. I know nuclear is clean energy but can you imagine a climate zealot doing that ten years ago?

FF and Nuclear is the only option that can fuel the energy intense demands of AI data centers these companies have so look for them to toss the GW talking points and even start backing studies that show nuclear is safe (which it is) to get the energy production they need

The leftist are shifting their focus from Climate Change to AI as a means to control the population. They know they've pushed the climate change narrative about as far as they can and it has failed. Now they need another way to control people, and AI offers the best opportunity.

They also know AI requires huge amounts of energy to function, and what do you know? All that anti-nuclear, anti fossil fuel mumbo jumbo isn't so important after all.

Sounds like Bill made a big investment in AI and needs more coal, gas, and oil fueled power plants.

So full of *****....they want energy for the AI boom that's coming, so the reversal is financially motivated. The climate hoax was also financially motivated. These people should be called before congress and forced to admit they are full of ****, liars or both and thrown in jail if they continue to lie.

Gates has just been following his buddy Buffets game plan of using government manipulation as an opportunity to cash in.

I was at the Trane Chiller Factory a couple of months go. The one in LaCross, WI that makes their large centrifugal chillers.

They did a $250M upgrade and expansion, and the place was full of 2-shift work making chillers for AI and Datacenters. Data Centers are asking for up twenty 2,000 Ton Machines. That's an insane amount of cooling capacity for a single complex. Hell, it could provide enough cooling for half a mid-sized city office towers.

To be honest, I've said this for years as well. When you say "thing x" will cause global extinction everyone just kind of tunes out because global extinction is such an abstract thing to worry about on a daily basis and something most rational humans know they have no ability to effect.

So I don't see this as Bill Gates reversing his position as much as admitting that the rhetoric used to talk about climate change was actually counter productive at getting people to care about the environment. He's still just as loony as ever, but he's arguing for the use of different language to discuss climate change because he can see how ineffective the doomsday language was.

I'd assume that in the coming years we'll see a new approach from the leftists in terms of rhetoric but it'll just be a new version of the same grift.

(ETA I'm a pragmatic environmentalist that believes in not deliberately being a dick by polluting the planet, but who will never accept environmental policies that cause current day suffering to protect the earth from some dire future that is thousands of years away.)

This is a rational take but Occam's Razor says this is Gates reversing course because his first passion (AI / technology) is more important than his second passion (green myth).

He's a fraud who became an environmental and health expert simply because he has money. He's also an immoral dbag who had an open marriage before his wife ended it when that became public.
