… and sending more drones into NATO airspace after being roundly rebuked by the US, Poland, and others publicly. They either seem to genuinely want to escalate tensions and risk creating a broader conflict and second front that will permit greater ease of taking Ukraine or they feel that when push comes to shove, the US and Western Europe will fracture NATO and abandon the Baltics.

And doing this during UN session is a pretty direct public F.U. on top of it all.

In other news, NATO wont do anything. Bunch of gutless leaders.

I think it's hard to argue their primarily intention is anything other than stretching NATO resources at this point. If this is true, that's four incursions in two weeks. That goes beyond a standard test of resolve, in my opinion.

Of course Putin's doubling down he knows NATO is spineless. They're gonna write some strongly worded letters and make a bunch of speeches and then sit around and hope US steps in.

I didn't know until yesterday... Russia crashed a drone into the new protective cover over the Chernobyl reactor #4. That enclosure is currently offering little to no protection as designed.

This...

Tanks could be rolling through the streets of Berlin and everyone would just have their phones out recording and hoping for thoughts and prayers.

Everyone saying NATO is spineless forgets we are the fist in that velvet glove and Trump just unequivocally gave his answer on where he stands on the matter the other day.

On the one hand you have to ask why the hell would Putin be willing to escalate things further when his current war is going badly. Then the other hand you REALLY have to ask, why the hell would Putin be willing to risk escalation when his current war is going badly?

NATO has always treated Russia from a position of relative strength historically speaking. This war has turned that on its head. The recent NATO meetings you couldn't begin to hide the scorn and hatred the rest of Europe has for Russia right now. We are living in interesting times.

And remember, most "acts of war" is only an act of war when it is politically convenient for it to be so.

"Consumer and industry/professional drones have to broadcast a so called "Remote-ID" that provides both the location of the pilot and drone in real time.
As the event is still ongoing, it can be ruled out that the drones are "random accidents", as police would have found the pranksters.
The fact that these drones do not provide Remote-ID underlines thd fact that drones used are modified or tailored to clandestine usage."

Don't worry, I am sure UN/NATO will come up with a Climate Change Tax affecting all UN countries to take care of the Russian aggression.

Maybe bring in the big guns. Greta...

I'm saying logically he shouldn't want to expand into more conflict when he is already locked into one he can't win currently.

But in the other hand, he actually COULD be looking to expand the conflict on purpose. The reasons for that could be one of a few but all are pretty bleak. Two easiest ones off top of head.

One, there is no denying any longer that Russia is in a wartime economy at this point. Now, whether it needs to stay that way to maintain the current "stability" as it were that Russia has economically and politically, is a massive debate in itself. Though on the surface it can be assumed that that the ruling class feels the need to keep it going to keep their power. More people dying for Russians oligarchs.

Two, expanding the war to NATO would allow Russia to unleash the full threatening of their arsenal. Meaning nukes. They can't beat Ukraine conventionally and they can't nuke them and have lost all prestige trying to do so. So by entering a true Cold War 2.0 they probably feel like they can get their might back on the political world stage.

The Ruskies have balls of stone. Think Stalingrad...You can't squeeze them hard enough to break them. The West isn't willing to pay the price it would take to beat them.

The Euros think they want to fight...Sounds like Trump is taking the smarter path: Stay out of the way and make money selling weapons.

Not until they are decimated and facing an actual (vs the Wagner clown car version) rebellion across the armed forces.

See WW1 as the poster child for this. Though the Crimean War is appropriate here too (the 1800s one).

Sending hoards of uneducated peasants with innate slave mentalities to be butchered in job lots is not having balls of stone and should not be admired by anyone. Even then, if you can't see the differences between early WW2 and what is occurring now, then I will kindly refer you to the Russo-Afghanistan conflict of the 80's for a more parallel ordering of events.

There's a major cost to that.

Putin doesnt gaf that his people's standard of living has plummeted under 20% inflation and relative scarcity of the goods they've grown to expect. And he's nowhere near his breaking point...

Otoh, we (the EU and the US), will **** ourselves and cry uncle the moment the price of gas goes up a few cents and poll numbers drop a fraction. we aren't willing to do what it takes.

ETA: and to respond to the post just above, I don't think Putin is remotely cool. He's a savage. We should be looking for non military ways to undermine him 24/7.

2-300 tomahawks would annihilate Russia's oil industry, Russia's economy, and turn out the lights in Moscow and St Petersburg. It's time to sack up and get serious. Russia isn't playing ball, so they need to get humbled.

Give him an off-ramp then punch him in the face.
