What says the common folk on this board RE this idea? A justified and necessary name change or more likely some marketing & rebranding consultant hubris gone awry of the same ilk as Cracker Barrel changing its logo.

I actually don't hate it, we should call war what it is and not use Orwell-esque euphemisms. Maybe we the people would be less cavalier about using our war apparatus if we had to be more bluntly honest about what it is and what it does.

I once had a business partner ask that we change the folder on the server from Employee Resources to Resources for Employees. Good reminder her was formerly the CEO of a large public company. Those guys love bureaucratic changes.

Why do we want our main military department to be about making war? We should be out of the war business. Let other people fight their own wars.

Instead of wasting a bunch of money for a pointless stunt, spend that money on actual defense of the homeland. This is one area where Trump should look at the historical reasons behind why it was changed from War to Defense and the symbolism behind why the eagle points to the olive branches instead of arrows.

I like it because "Department of Defense" sounds a lot better when justifying expenses than "Department of War".

If the military is actually in the business of defending the USA against modern threats, then disband the Department of Homeland Security and re-deploy the military to the job.

The DoD is responsible for conventional warfare. Department of War is a more accurate name for their job.

Note sure how much we invested in "defense of the homeland" at that time.

I guess my overall point is that we have a much more offensive stature regarding our military vs a predominantly defensive one.
