Several of the survivors did indeed enlist in that Union regiment and they fought against their own countrymen in South Texas.

Interesting choice of words...

Agreed. Over 80,000 Texas men were enlisted in the CSA including thousands of conscripts. No more than 2,200 Texas citizens took the boat ride to Occupied New Orleans to enlist in the 1st through 4th (only the 1st lasted more than a year) U.S. Cavalry regiments. They were designated to invade Texas and fought their countrymen all along the coast from Galveston to Brownsville, from January 1863 to the Battle of Palmetto Ranch May 12-13, 1865.

Less than 2% of the population owned slaves.

I can assure you that 98% of the Confederate Army was not fighting so that some rich arsehole could keep his slaves.

"People owned other people. Sold them. Raped them. Beat them. Nothing cool about it."

100% right that was wrong But you are somehow OK with that exact activity going on through the border so your party can get more votes so I don't believe you are sincere about those sentiments.

This post had 72 blue stars when I quoted it. Would one of the 72 people show how they know that Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose? There are people on this thread who would test positive for fentanyl. Floyd died from excessive force. You don't have to make up history just because you don't like the BLM movement. Be better. You can't just wash your hands of truth because it makes you think. Pontius Pilate tried it already.

What more votes are your talking about. The. Census is based on everyone in the country not just citizens.

If only is citizens are used Texas, Florida and California lose one. Ohio, Minnesota and Alabama gain one.

It's a net wash but a great false position!!!

Open borders just made no sense, and it was not the policy of even prior democratic administrations.

- It won't change congressional apportionment significantly.
- It harms national security.
- It harms infrastructure in both predictable and unpredictable ways (diseases, education, health care, law enforcement, etc)
- It deflects from structured immigration plans to recruit workers, offset our declining birthrates, and foments anti-immigration rhetoric
- Most people were against it.

Even if some backdoor future amnesty was part of the plan, it wouldn't affect elections that much, and bipartisan immigration reform could have brought the same number of people here legally.

It reminds me of China's Zero Covid policy. It just made no sense. Terrible miscalculations in both cases.

All that said, I don't like the fact that people blame immigrants for what's ailing this country, by pointing to every violent crime committed by a group of 15 million people. I could say more, but it's easier to just recommend everyone watch The Village. It's a pretty good movie.

Cross posting from the Metroplex board-

Posting this here hoping to see if any info becomes available. And trying not to make it a political post (there's a thread on F16 about that).

I'm sure most here have heard about the controversy around Midland ISD changing the name of Legacy HS back to the original Lee Rebels (it was changed to Legacy back in 2021).

They travel to Allen to open the season. I have seen some things on social media about groups planning to protest at the game. Do you think this would be a thing in Allen, Texas? I'm really not familiar with the community so I don't know.

I do know about an incident involving their quarterback last season (or maybe 2 seasons ago), where racial slurs were spray painted on the kid's house. A lot of people seemed to think it was a hoax, set up by his own family so the kid could transfer to a Frisco school without sitting out a year. Other than that I have no idea about racial issues in Allen.

We were planning on going to the game but I'd sure like to avoid any nonsense. I realize a lot of people talk crap on social media, but on the other hand nothing would surprise me these days.

Quote:

Its a major metro area. 100% there will be a bunch of idiots that drive out there to protest from all over if it gains traction. Allen HS football games have turned into a bit of a mess in general with the fights and stuff from what I've heard from a friend who's kids go there

Stay tuned

What evidence do you have that he died from a different cause? I am a scientist. I am not afraid of evidence. George Floyd had 9 prior arrests and wasn't somebody I'd want house-sitting for me. But he died of a heart attack caused by asphyxiation.

If you believe the medical examiner was lying, covering something up, did his job poorly...I don't know how to counter that. But the medical examiner report remains the best evidence, and believing it doesn't mean I'm believing BS.

This. There won't be any organic protests beyond maybe a couple of upset white California transplants. Otherwise the move and the entire movement back to normal is overwhelmingly popular. They could buy some trouble if they want but I doubt it.

I don't want any crimes. And removal of illegal alien criminals should be a high priority, especially those with gang ties, violent crimes, financial crimes, terroristic threats, etc. However, their actual crime rates are lower than those of natural born citizens. I suspect this is because of the epidemic of broken families in this country, with far too many of our young men growing up without fathers. By contrast, most people don't walk through the Darien Gap all excited about how they can get to El Paso and commit armed robbery and rape. Some do, to be sure...

The crimes AGAINST immigrants before they even arrive is the greater tragedy.

How can you assure us?

Slavery was THE central issue of states secession from the union causing the Civil War. This is well documented in the Confederate States secession letters. Slavery is mentioned in virtually every sentence.

Lee was a complex figure being native to the south. He may have been a powerful leader, but ultimately he was a leader for the wrong cause. He fought to keep black people oppressed and enslaved.

The book Demon of Unrest is about Abraham Lincoln and the start of the civil war. It really opened my eyes to the evil that was so subtly woven into the south. Mainstream ideology warped people's principles into believing they were on moral high ground to be complicit with slavery.

Most did not own slaves, but the small daily acts and beliefs combined to the ideology of keeping blacks enslaved and oppressed.

Same thing with the genocide of Jews in the 1940's. Not everyone physically threw Jews in gas chambers. Some just drove buses or trains or did paper work. Ultimately each small complicit act played a role into the movement of massive genocide.

Hitler was also a powerful leader, but a powerful leader for the wrong cause does not make him a great leader.

That is 2% for the entire country, closer to 16% to 40% for the deep south. But that does not include all of the non-slave holding citizens in the south that were dependent on slavery (e.g. bankers, railroad workers, store clerks, lawyers etc.).

I think your point is that the Confederate solders were fighting for the homes and family over slavery, and that is accurate.

Folks in the north essentially practiced those same daily acts, and just skipped the "slavery" part. See how busing was received in Boston all the way into the 1970s.

And then there's the Jim Crow laws firmly entrenched in the north….

Yes. …sounds like the same arrangement - the bugle call intro and ending flourish give it away.
