Nuclear energy, blah blah blah....

Nuke energy only needs uranium enriched to 3-5% for power generation, yet iran is enriching up to 60%.

Why might that be? Maybe because 90% is weapons grade.

If they wanted it for power, they could enrich to 5% and no one would have any grounds to distrust Iran's claims.

Don't try nation building this time. Destroy the capability and be done.

Not much building necessary. Send a limo to pick up Reza Pahlavi from his home in DC. Drop him off at Andrews for a flight back home. Done.

Leader of terror group KSS just said if bombs start to fly hundreds of suicide numbers will be released around the Middle East and Europe. I think the protest with all the people and LEOs in a confined space would be a prime target as well

Nobody likes war, but sometimes there are no other choices.

And this won't be a war. Iran can be ended in less than a week if we choose it.

And once and for all, we need to end their radical leadership. This one absolutely does affect us and the entire rest of the world.

These guys believe that they are responsible for ushering in the end of the world and that they will be rewarded for it if they do so.

They are building a nuclear weapon in order to use it and use it immediately.

Simply can't let people like that exist

Not really surprised that Israel is ready or geared up. Mostly surprised Witkoff is still planning to meet but theater I guess.

In a week? What CAN be done is irrelevant because we know it's never what WILL be done. Ever since WW2 all we've done is go to places and get stuck there for many years to decades.

Sometimes action is necessary.

I just hope we have learned our lesson about "nation building" in 6th century middle eastern theocracies.

I'm fully aware of the same old trope about Iran being "literally" weeks away from obtaining an ICBM capable nuke. But, here I was today staring at crude making a little bull run up close to $70 when no logical reason exists for it to be doing so, and I gave in to peer pressure and starting thinking maybe this Iran chatter is real.
But now, after hours markets are balancing out in international crude baskets and I'm realizing that it was more investment firms pumping and dumping contracts per the normal crooked modus operandi

The take away here is that the White House made an attempt to extend a carrot to the Iranians before letting the Israelis take their long-awaited shot.

Those talks would seem to have broken down and potentially new info came in over the weekend, significant enough to redirect Trump away from his scheduled plans to go to Camp David and huddle with the extended defense and intelligence command and VP, during which Bibi was contacted.

The Iranian regime is at a historic weak moment given the decimation of their air defense systems and leadership losses over the course of the Gaza conflict, all at the hands of the Israelis, while simultaneously closer to nuclear armament than ever.

I would bet dollars to donuts we do not get involved, but have removed the 'hold' on Bibi.

Although not this easy, I'd like to think we could precision bomb all the openings to the facility and shut it off from the above ground world.
This. Close off the access and see how the deep facilities fare without a way to get food/water/power/oxygen(?) to their personnel and equipment. Keep the satellites watching and bomb the repair crews/equipment if/when they show up on site. Hit every power station that might be associated with their nuclear sites. How do they cool their reactors? Identify that and hit them too.

Israelis in particular have some expertise in whack-a-mole warfare and it doesn't have to be a one time operation.

The idea has never been that Iran is weeks away. It's always been that they have an active program and may be years away. I think that's been mostly true for a long time. There's ample evidence they have a program and are actively pursuing nuclear weapons. How far along they are and in what areas is the real mystery. I also think they've been delayed several times by the Israelis, and to some extent us. Israel has long waged a shadow war on their nuclear program with attacks like stuxnet and assassinating Iranian scientists and researchers.

I don't think it is or ever has been about immediately stopping them from getting the bomb, but it is and has frequently been about continuing to strategically delay them.

Agree and most of those people would far prefer not to be under the tyrannical rule of the Mullahs imo.

I rather expect something more insidious than bombing altho admittedly that doesn't match up with evacuating regional personnel.

we have dozens of legal reasons to take out the Iranian nuclear reactors:

The Director General's report speaks for itself in describing the full extent of the outstanding safeguards issues in Iran, their connection with Iran's past nuclear activities, and Iran's extensive record of obstruction, concealment, deception, and obfuscation in its approach to the work of the IAEA and the implementation of its Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement.

The report makes clear that:

Iran has refused to declare nuclear material and nuclear-related activities at three undeclared locations in Iran. Until the early 2000s, those locations and possibly others formed part of Iran's undeclared structured nuclear program.

Iran retained, at Turquzabad, up until 2018, unknown nuclear material and/or heavily contaminated equipment and other assets arising from various locations, the whereabouts of which remain unknown to the Agency.
These locations, as well as several others, were sanitized through various means, including the wholesale demolition of buildings, at key times in the IAEA's investigation and despite direct requests by the Agency to preserve them.

In addition, the Director General's report underscores that:

Iran is the only country that is not meeting its obligations related to the implementation of the modified Code 3.1, which it accepted in 2003, even as Iran talks openly about constructing new nuclear facilities. As the Agency has recalled multiple times, the modified Code 3.1 is a legal obligation for Iran under the Subsidiary Arrangements to its Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement. Iran cannot unilaterally modify or suspend implementation of these Subsidiary Arrangements.

Iran is the only State in the world without nuclear weapons that is producing and accumulating uranium enriched to 60%, which has potential proliferation implications.

There have been repeated statements by former high-level officials in Iran related to Iran having the capability to manufacture nuclear weapons, which continue to provide concerns.

The report's overall assessment is alarming: as a result of Iran's failure to cooperate with the IAEA, the Director General cannot rule out that nuclear material remains unaccounted for and outside of safeguards in Iran today and he cannot provide assurance that Iran's nuclear program is exclusively peaceful. These serious findings should give all of us pause.

You wouldn't have to look very hard on YouTube to find claims made by different high ranking politicians over multiple decades in front of the UN or the US house or senate claiming Iran is X days, weeks , or months away from a viable weapon.

Maybe they finally are

To be fair, the US has top 5 worldwide natural gas reserves and has the world's largest coal reserves. We're shutting down these plants as fast as the regulators can figure out an excuse to get it done and throwing up windmills & solar energy farms to "replace" them. We also have the world's largest nuclear power capacity, but you wouldn't know it from all the public rhetoric.

But I totally 100% agree that actual energy needs are not the reason they're building nuclear power plants. And deep down nobody else believes that either...
