So did ICE and HSI stop all the drugs, human & weapons trafficking and they are now focusing on those illegals that fill in the labor gaps?

Cheap labor for the house people are going to be buying was a gold mine. I'm thinking contractors aren't going to eat the cost of hiring non illegals.

Anyone want to guess how much the price of houses are going to increase now that Americans will have to work these jobs?

And how much it will cost to repair the shoddy work after the job takes three times longer than it used to...?

Housing costs are just the beginning. Quality of work is the real issue, over the long term of new builds. Hope you guys know how to fix things yourselves.

I've paid for cheap work and expensive work. Nearly every contractor I've used does horrible work. More money doesn't mean better quality.

The few contractors I like that do quality work are older than dirt and/or now retired.

The one young contractor i know that does quality work is always booked and being taken advantage of by his a-hole dad who runs the business.

I told my wife who was complaining about Hispanic ladies driving Tahoes and Suburbans, and not knowing basic Texas driving laws, that those autos just looked expensive and they probably bought them with over 100000 miles on them. Maybe not, lol.

I'm as conservative as they come, but this is sort of a double-edged sword for me as I work in the construction industry.

If guys are here illegally but are just hard working guys trying to make a better living for their family (which I would do the same if I was in their position), and aren't criminals, other than the fact they are here illegally, I wouldn't mind letting them pass. As long as they are not receiving any special aid from the government and they are paying their own way.

The ones that are over here doing real criminal activities (rape, drug/sax trafficking, etc.), yes, please get them the hell out of here.

And please don't come at me calling me a liberal. I'm about as right as you can be, with some policies being kind of in the middle on. I do believe everyone who enters the country should do it the right way. But the ones who have been here working hard for 10-20+ years probably don't want to try to do it the right way or get papers/visas because they're afraid they'll just be sent back to their home country.

I have for a long time advocated for a "worker ID".

Come to the border, get photo-ed, finger printed, and DNA sample. We give you an ID that allows you to come here and work. As long as you do not break any laws, you can come and go back and forth to your home country and your job here.

However, the employer needs to notify the IRS and pay a 5% SS tax on each of them they employ based on wages paid. The worker is not entitled to any US benefits, but SS still needs to be collected because jobs are being filled by non US citizens and are currently paid under the radar hurting US citizen retirees.

You can still pay them below minimum wage as they are not subject to US wage laws. It is a negotiated wage between the two parties. Govt needs to stay out of it.

Seems like this would make a lot more sense than trying to round up 20 million illegals.

This stuff isn't hard. It just takes a bit of effort to learn the proper methods and then some actual work effort. I've done drywall, framing, doors, water, electric, roofs. Either my own or helping family. I'm certified to maintain and inspect my own aerated septic system. I do virtually all of my own auto maintenance and repair. I paint, do tractor work, roofed barns, plumbing, replaced water heaters, built and repaired lots of fence, etc.

A high school graduates can easily master all of this atuff with effort and practice and as you do more, you get better and faster and learn the little tricks that make work more efficient.

You pay me enough, I'll go it today. I'm totally in the Mike Rowe camp on this. Dirt and sweat wash off. Millions of people of all backgrounds are out there getting it done every day. You get the quality you demand and pay for and it helps to have some knowledge about what you are having done so you can evaluate the results

No Spin, I know you are on the left and I have a question:

how do you libs reconcile the fact that you are literally ok exploiting and abusing illegals to provide you cheap labor so you can save a buck on your house, but you also rage about people not making a living wage because the minimum wage is too low, are pro union which artificially increases the cost of labor, and all kinds of other Marxist nonsense.

What you advocate with illegals is no different than advocating for bond servantry imo.
Good questions, Logo, and if this was twenty years ago, I'd be giving you a pretzel-twisted response, but that NSA is long gone. I haven't been a liberal in more years than I can remember, at least not by the liberals that have taken over the left. The older I get the more libertarian I become.

Back to your questions.

I don't believe in exploiting anyone, in this country or others, just so that a businessman can keep even more money for himself, or make more money for their shareholders.

I don't want illegals in my country and I don't want them being hired for jobs that American businesses, big and small, knowingly give to them because they, the businesses, want to keep even more money by paying cheaper labor than they would an American. To me, shame on everyone who knowingly hires illegals, and yes, only an idiot would think that people who hire illegals don't know they're hiring illegals, wink-wink, and all.

If a house, or any good is going to cost more because of all the round-ups, I make more money than I'll ever need, and any jump in price I'm good with. Prices have increased in every administration my entire life, and they'll continue until the day I die.

When it comes to unions, I've hated them since I was a kid. I never saw them being anything more than a way for employees to not be able to be held to account like people that aren't in unions as well as a way for unions to rake in money for themselves, which they in turn would send some up to the politicians they owned.

As for minimum wage, again, the NSA that would have cared about minimum wage couldn't care less. Now, I do like that businesses like HEB and others started paying fifty percent and more over minimum wage to their employees if only to show that they could and still make their profits. Do I think there should be a federally mandated minimum wage? I couldn't care less. If it doubles or goes away it won't affect my lifestyle one iota.

Thanks for your questions, I hope I answered them, at least somewhat in a way that makes sense.

Who knows, but if prices rise too much, buyers will not be buying. Then prices will go back down.

The contractors have benefitted from lower wages via cheap labor for a long time.
The contractors and every company.

I can't wait to see ICE raids at every meat-packing plant in this country. When that happens, that's when you know the administration is really serious about getting rid of the illegals in this country.

As lazy as Americans are, and as quick the younger generations are to up and quit for new jobs, construction of all things will likely become challenging to everyone from the contractor to the ones they answer to.

Young Americans could be making a killing and owning these businesses instead of the raft of illegal hispanics that now work and own these small construction businesses. Americans are plenty smart but too lazy to do the work and run these small businesses.

You over estimate the average stoner knucklehead young American
Starting running and turning a profit is not easy Onky the sharpest and most motivated illegals go from being a laborer to a husinesss owner running a crew
Same would be true for Americans whose t that route You are correct money yo be made but it's not easy and most will fail

Dear Those Who Disagree With Deportations,

You now see when democrats choose the laws they want to uphold or not, there are consequences. In this case, for one moment you were all cozy, enjoying the milk of merica. Then democrats, purposely allowed millions upon millions to illegally enter this nation. Instead of blocking the crossings, you did nothing. Then those that care about laws were brought in to right the wrongs. Now, the once cozy non-worried milk drinking illegal has to always be looking at his 6 for la migra. It doesn't pay to be a democrat.

In my experience, the base driver for creating the market for illegals is the American consumer. I can't tell you how many people get bids from me and my competitors and then go out and find some guy in a 30 year old truck with out of state plates and tell me "I found a guy that is 30% less than you!" Yeah? No kidding?! Wow!

Consumers have created a cheap labor market. We love Amazon junk. It's cheap. We love Walmart. It's cheap. We love it when we perceive to get the same product for less.

Here's a pro tip….you aren't getting the same product and service for cheap. There is a minimum profit margin required to run a legitimate business and no one is dropping that to accommodate cheap customers or those that can't afford the service.

People not in the trades have little idea of costs but just remember, we all buy materials from the same suppliers and your big names are getting material discounts from volume….there is only one place to cut costs after that.
