I'm not arguing who was right or wrong, just that he might not have been making the most reasonable choice from a personal safety perspective. That's all!

He should get life, but I think he'll get 20 years or less. They're going to take his age into consideration. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I don't see a life sentence here unless it's life with parole. Then I bet the kid is out within 10 years.

Assuming guilty on murder, if they do 30 years he would be parole eligible in 15 correct? So if they want to guarantee he serves 25 they sentence him to 50?

I think that's the prevailing sentiment. That it would have taken longer because there would have been holdouts on the murder conviction, time needed to convince them, time to consider the manslaughter charge, etc. The deliberation took a little under 3 hours I believe.
