The H-1B program is about corruption and fraud, not ideology

Instead of selecting for the "best and brightest,'" the program facilitates the interests of a power cartel of middleman agencies.

Wow, that is a crazy distribution.
probably because it's implausible, and in all likelihood untrue. the iq threshold for intellectual disability is 70, and this distribution implies ~40% of india is below it. the actual measured prevalence is closer to 2%.

By PISA scores it is true. India ranked 72 out of 73 nations before they stopped reporting results. PISA scores correlated extremely close to IQ so yeah it is correct.

Africa scores even lower than India.

The unfortunate reality is that a large portion of the world is incapable of doing even basic tasks beyond Stone Age levels. Subsaharan Africa for example, never invented the wheel and Australian Aboriginals do not understand where babies come from because they concept is too abstract.

You are insulated in a high IQ society and likely only interact with people who are 120+. The world in which these people live is vastly different from the world we all live in (I mean everyone who posts on this board regardless of political affiliation).

And yet the medical industry has not increased the number of doctors approved domestically in like 30 years despite the population increase so now the hospitals are just "forced" to get foreign doctors.

Foreign Indian doctors are by far the worst. I know for a fact I will get terrible treatment from them. This is why I only go to white doctors.

The US Immigration policy is in need of an overhaul, but we must allow the Border Patrol to stop people from crossing illegally first. A good starting point for the US Congress would be to crackdown on illegal employment. Economic opportunity is the main force driving migration. Therefore, since illegal employment is a magnet for illegal immigration, it only makes sense that the United States government must find ways to take that magnet away. We must continue to step up work site enforcement, which requires Congress to fund more law enforcement positions for ICE to actually investigate companies across the nation. But first and foremost, E-Verify needs to be mandatory.

My mom and dad immigrated from Taiwan to the United States in 1975 and 1979 respectively. I am for legal immigration, but not the current massive immigration levels. For several reasons, it's time for the US Congress to tame down immigration levels. Massive immigration causes traffic congestion, which would cause the quality of roads to decline faster. Also, the rapid increase has strained America's beleaguered schools, which literally don't have room for all these students. In addition, massive immigration would further tighten the supply of affordable housing for purchase or rent. Furthermore, there would be an increased demand for water, electricity, and other public services. Most importantly, there would be increased competition for jobs. Scaling back legal migration and cracking down on illegal immigration would ensure an improved quality of life for current US citizens.

I've dealt with Lebanese and Iranian physicians. No complaints, exceptional physicians. They'd been physicians in the US for a long time, though.

Don't physicians from other countries, who want to work in the states, need to pass a standard type of test or something?

Or can they just bring the piece of paper from their country, place it on a wall in an office, and start working without getting approval from anyone?
There are in fact two things, science and opinion; the former begets knowledge, the later ignorance. Hippocrates

Physicians from these nations are way less likely to scam the system so they are likely fine. Indian doctors are well known to do this. Just go read about the standard for medical care in India, it's horrific.

As far as I know, Iran and Lebanon have pretty good medical systems.

Project much? Could it be that the US hasn't expanded the number of medical residency slots since 1997?

Earlier this year, just over 1,300 graduates in good standing of US medical schools did not receive residencies at US teaching hospitals. Hence, they will never practice medicine.

At the same time, roughly 4,300 foreign trained physicians (FTP) coming in on J-1 visas did receive residencies in the USA at teaching hospitals.

FTPs are the band aid being applied to the medical establishment to cover its refusal to invest in more doctors, schools and residencies. Meanwhile our doctors work longer hours under a system that doesn't value them as professionals and treats them like commodities.

Anyone of those doctors who didn't get a residency would be only to pleased to work anywhere and for as many hours just to get the residency.

I have been saying this for years.

When over half of your MD graduates are female and they statistically work fewer hours or leave the profession altogether than their male counterparts you HAVE to graduate more doctors to even it out.

The American medical profession by favoring females is actually reducing the number of available doctors I the US.

VERY irresponsible.

And the same sort of thing happened in at least 55 English towns to thousands of English girls.

I don't know how it didn't result in a civil war. Instead, the government significantly increased immigration from the countries that were involved and sentenced people to jail for criticizing it.

It's very irresponsible for a functioning society. There's a natural supply for high-skilled positions required for maintaining a first world society, and we've done everything to place downward pressure on our natural aristoi.

We need to address the issues in education that place negative pressure on demographics more likely to get STEM degrees to ensure we develop more domestic talent.

Males are more likely to go into STEM but our universities are only 40% male. There have to be issues in both primary and secondary education that are causing this.

Asians and whites are more likely to go into STEM but face DEI admissions practices that decrease their enrollment and push them to lower tier schools. How many are not being recruited because they got pushed to lower tier schools?

After graduation, they face DEI hiring initiatives to meet ESG requirements. How many are not being hired for higher level positions because they're unable to get a foot in the door to gain experience?

Have been thinking about this way too much since all this broke. I think the average IQ and normal distribution everyone is using for Indian immigrants IQ is off.

A regression to the mean based on a 75, or even 85 IQ, would never account for the academic performance of 2nd generation Indian kids.

Let's say you have a normally distributed country with 330 million people with an average IQ of 100. It will have 165 million people above 100 IQ and 10,500 people above 160 IQ.

And you want to pull additional talent from a normally distributed country of 1.45 billion people with an average IQ of 82. It will have 161 million people above 100 IQ and 145 people above 160 IQ.

Assuming an extreme 160 IQ outlier with a spouse halfway between the population average and the outlier and grandparents inline with the country average. The children of the 160 IQ individual in the first country would have an expected average IQ of 118. The children of the 160 IQ individual in the second country would have an expected average IQ of 105.

That's not really what we're seeing in the American suburbs. Due to the caste system, I think Suriname is a good replacement. It has an average IQ in the 90-91 range.

If I had to guess the average IQ in the lowest caste is closer to 55 with a smaller standard deviation and the average IQ in the highest caste is closer to 95.

You do have to keep in mind factors that impact IQ:
1. Nutrition, India is very poor and protein and other nutrients foods are likely lacking which impacts development.
2. Education, see India is poor. Quality education is likely put of reach for many of the population.

Then add in generational impact. Their parents, grandparents etc all have smaller vocabularies and poorer reading abilities. So they aren't fit to teach as well.

That's true but the environmental effects on IQ would impact the lower castes much more than the higher castes. The range is pretty wide but most studies attribute 60-90% of IQ to genetic factors with the remainder to shared and non-shared environmental factors.

A strong caste system over thousands of years would place significant pressure on the stratification of genetic IQ and result in a lower likelihood of outlier IQ's in the lower castes. Couple that with generations of malnutrition and filth having a long-term dysgenic effect on IQ, and you have an extremely large difference in IQ between the castes solely based on genetic factors.

Tesla reportedly replacing some laid off US workers with those holding H-1B visas

Quote:

Tesla is reportedly replacing some of its laid off workforce with foreign workers using H-1B visas recently championed by CEO Elon Musk and President-elect Donald Trump.

According to a report by Electrek, Musk is using the work visa program to bring qualified foreign workers to his companies, like Tesla, and replacing U.S. workers who were laid off this year.
Qualified foreign workers must be sponsored by a company to obtain a H-1B visa. The work visa lasts three years and can be extended to six before the holder needs to reapply. The visa holder must remain employed at their sponsor to retain the work visa and must leave the country if employment ends. Many tech companies use H-1B visas to bring in workers and depend on them to operate.

According to Electrek, Tesla requested over 2,000 H-1B visas during the time it was laying off part of its global workforce, a widespread layoff concentrated in California and Texas.

Quote:

Tesla laid off 10% of its global workforce in April, affecting 14,000 employees worldwide, including nearly 2,700 in Austin. It is unclear what the reported recent H-1B visa hiring spree means for Tesla's Austin Gigafactory.

The H-1B visa program has sparked controversy. Some view it as a legal means to bring skilled workers to the U.S., while others criticize the power sponsors have over visa holders. This includes paying them less, pressuring them, and threatening to revoke their sponsorship. Some have even likened it to modern-day indentured servitude.
