How do we hold our politicians accountable and take the power back?

Incumbents are hard to primary and most seemingly get corrupted anyways. Too much harm can be done between elections.

Our government is supposed to be of the people, by the people and for the people. They derive their power from the people. They exploit that power to their own ends. They definitely wouldn't initiate legislation that would encumber their ability to gain that power.

What's realistic? Revolution and secession are pipe dreams and probably wouldn't succeed anyways in the long term. The constitution isn't followed, how do we veer back to it?

The government takes our money at threat of prison and then either spends it on stuff most wouldn't even think about spending it on if it was their own money. Or they attach so many strings to "allow" us to use it, mostly in the form of how states can spend federal dollars.

Where do we even start?

Any bill to be voted on by congress requires the person voting to read the whole bill themselves. There is a test on the bills contents. A grade of 70 is required to vote on the bill. Anyone not making the 70 or above is ineligible to vote and marked in the public rolls as "ineligible to vote".

Thats about 30% too lenient.

If you don't know 3/10 pages you need to spend more time reading it before you vote.

Require all bills to be hand written. Probably be cut down to 5 pages and all the BS would be eliminated

And their average "eligible to vote" score is put on the ballot for elections (primaries and general).

I think Elon 'buying' this election finally got dems wanting to over turn citizens united.

We need to pay more attention in the primaries. We need to vet the correct person. The criteria should be the most conservative electable person in the general. Sometimes you have to give up the candidate who would do the best in the primary and get the person in who has the best chance to win.
If we start primarying some of these Rino's they'll start getting the hint.

Term limits and prison terms for conflict of interest violation.

Care.

That's all it would take is that a majority of voters actually care. Care enough to look beyond media sound bites, care enough to pay attention to which lobbyists their representatives talk to, heck….care enough to pay attention to their representatives actual voting record and actually pay attention to the legislation support and what that legislation actually does!!!

But very few voters do (F16 excluding, mostly).

The problem isn't the politicians, it isn't term limits…it's the apathetic voting populace.

The only way together this country back is to change the hearts and minds of the people!

Term limits

No riders on any bills

Bills may not be longer than 5 pages and must be read aloud by the author

Balanced budget required using REAL math not CBO BS math

Any year where we are not in an officially declared state of war then congress does not get paid if they don't pass a budget and they only get 25% of their pay if the budget is not balanced.

This, AND get rid of corporate overlords being able to buy, I mean, donate to campaigns.

The only way to keep politicians in check is to keep them from getting checks from those who will own them while they're in office.

Because if you think CEO's (privately or through any other means) donate to politicians and do not want something from them in return, you're more ignorant than a newborn baby.

Ban special interest lobbying and require that office staff gets turned off when a new legislature is elected. Dirty truth is most of the unelected staff who works in the same office for years, no matter the candidate or party affiliation, really controls what happens in Government.

Every bill has to be voted in again every 5-10 years without any change. After 5 repeats with simple majority, it becomes permanent. After 3 with supermajority it becomes permanent.

Or do like China.

They recently executed a high ranking official for corruption. Sometime ago. They also executed the head of their FDA.

Problem for us is of course with our bipartisan system, they'd kill each other off? I dint know.

It's never been any different and it never will be any different. It's the very nature of who and what they are.

The only tangible way to limit their power and corruption would be to starve them of money but unfortunately most people are always good with more taxes because it's always sold as "going after the other guy to make it fair". And meanwhile the politicians have figured out how to spend infinite money whether they have it or not anyway so… it is what it is.

But here's the deal, human nature doesn't change much, it's not like politicians and men of state were any more honest in the 1800s or 1500s or in Roman times, it's always been the same and it always will be. Politics attracts those people in the first place and most of the remainder who don't go in already corrupted become that way. The biggest problem is not them, it's the majority of regular citizens who willingly give them more and more power in order to "take care of people".

It's too late. We are too far gone.

The election of Trump may hold off the inevitable for a few more years.

But if you look closely we were still a few votes in a few battleground states away from replacing a pedophile with end stage dementia, with a cackling prostitute with a room temperature IQ.

Universal suffrage only works with universal intelligence and universal morality.

When the ignorant outnumber the intelligent, and the lazy and entitled outnumber the productive, we are done.

It changed a CR bill and seems to be a start.

1. No more congressional exemptions on any laws. That means Obamacare would have applied to them.

2. Balanced budget amendment. Failure to pass a balanced budget means no one can run for re-election.

3. Any votes for salary increases don't take effect for two terms. Alternatively, if you vote for a salary increase, you cannot run for re-election.

4. Mandatory IRS audit publicly published annually for you, spouse, and immediate family.
