Quote:

The German government collapsed on Monday as Chancellor Olaf Scholz lost a confidence vote in Parliament, deepening a crisis of leadership across Europe at a time of mounting economic and security challenges.

Quote:

Coming just nine months before parliamentary elections had been scheduled to happen, the vote was an extraordinary moment for Germany. The elections, now expected on Feb. 23, will be only the fourth snap election in the 75 years since the modern state was founded. The moment reflects a new era of more fractious and unstable politics in a country long known for durable coalitions built on plodding consensus.

Quote:

Seven parties will go into the campaign for Parliament with a realistic chance of gaining seats, and some on the political fringes especially on the right are poised for strong showings, according to polls. Mr. Scholz is widely expected to be ousted as chancellor, with polls suggesting that the conservative Christian Democrats are poised to finish first, well ahead of Mr. Scholz's Social Democrats.

Quote:

The campaign is likely to be dominated by several issues that have vexed Europe in recent years. Both Germany and France are mired in debates over how best to revive their struggling economies, bridge growing social divides, ease voter anxieties over immigration and buttress national defense.

Just one week after the French government collapsed. Europe is a mess right now. You've got to think that the people over there are sick of the leftist globalists that have been running their countries into the ground.

The people reject Europe's migration policies.

Yet, no matter how many times the people vote against it, it will continue, because European countries have ceded massive sovereignty to the "economic" partnership that is the EU.

I was intrigued by this statement more than anything else.

Amazing a country of 84 million has 717 parliament members (one per roughly 115k) where we have 330 million and only 535 (one per 616k)

Interesting.

Ease their anxiety?

How about you solve the problem, instead of worrying about how to make people feel better about the problem?

Draconian Covid restrictions and the resulting economic chaos along with open borders has come back to bite the Marxists all over the world.

People of every country saw what tyranny looked like and now the globalist elites on the left are paying the piper.

Could not be happier to see it. Europe needs a good cleansing.

Germany, France collapsing with a sever decline. England teetering on the edge from bad policy. Georgia in quasi revolt. Middle Eastern countries being overthrown. War in Crimea and Eastern Europe. The IS primed for a bit of an insolationist stance....

Seems like I've heard this record somewhere before... wasn't a good tune then either

On the other hand they have a lot more political parties for those parliamentary members to belong to. Google tells me 9 in the last parliament.

It might be nice to have more than Kodos or Kang to choose from when voting and it to matter. Different systems though.

This is marxists being marxists.

Supposedly there is growing support among the people for the AfD, which is more of a right wing party with anti-globalist stances.

The difference is that members of Congress actually represent people and parliament members are only beholden to political parties.

Socialists inevitably thrive during good times because there is money to go around. When times get tough though (oftentimes through their own mismanagement) that money dries up and they have to answer to the law of economics.

Note that they were snickering at his warnings about (their) being dependent on Russian oil/gas for energy.

So ironic today it is…perhaps off the charts, as their government collapses and even the Swedes mock their energy policies amid their economic collapse waiting for the weather gods to help them.

The joke is on Germany, France, and the UK. They already passed the point of no return in their march towards Marxism.

Even the more "conservative" among the people still beg for gov't economic safety nets. They just have differing views on the social issues. These people do not understand that economics MUST come first. Without sound, free market economics unburdened as much as possible from regulation, you remain exactly as you are. Failing and arguing about the scraps around the table.

I wouldn't expect much to change in Germany. Even if the AfD manages to get the most votes, they won't get anywhere near a majority, and none of the other parties appear likely to invite them to join a coalition. That's what you get with proportional representation and multiple parties. If Germany had first past the post, like the UK, it might be different.

The energy fiasco is the gift that keeps on giving. Closing down their nuclear plants was mind numbingly stupid, and that will probably be Angela Merkel's only major policy legacy, besides opening the doors to immigrants. What a disaster!

In actuality, this is 100 far left wing extremists within the German government want to outlaw the populist center right AfD party. This is something everyone should know by now. Btw they don't mind being called Marxists so the above accurate description is necessary. And no need to wait for the "media" to report it that way either since they too are far left wing extremists.

nerd alert - I can't help but picture the senate scene in Star Wars when the avote of "no confidence" is proposed. Always thought that scene was over done , but it is truer than ever on the silly protocols and ridiculous posturing that takes place in government chambers

Indeed it would.

But, much like Europe, the people of the US have become enslaved to The State as well. But in the US, it seems to be even more insidious as the power hungry politicians have set themselves and their friends up very nicely through lobbying and robbing the future generations of US citizens through The Treasury.

That would require "conservatives" to care more about economic principles than catchy slogans and their religion. There wasn't a single candidate in this election that supported an actual free market

Exactly. The Dems here still believe the messaging was the problem. Americans aren't smart enough to see how great of a job they did these last 4 years.
