https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/15/europe/israel-ireland-embassy-closure-intl/index.html

I can totally understand why: The Irish have been quite vocal in their support for "Palestinian" and accusing Israel of "genocide" for fighting a defensive war (while giving Muslim countries a free pass).

Perhaps the US should recall its ambassador to Ireland as well, to make a statement about Hamas.

The present "Irish" government does not represent the (true) "Irish" people. The government tries to be left of Marx, but to do so they must import Marxists. (Sound familiar?)

Gotta admit the whole government of Ireland confuses me. It's a strange kind of democracy.

Why would Israel need an embassy in Ireland anyway?

Are there lots of Jews in Ireland?

I would assume that Ireland has ZERO influence on what happens in Israel.

That was my question too. What do embassies actually do? Is Ireland negatively affected in any way by this? Or is it purely symbolic?

If countries have diplomatic relations, there is an embassy that houses an ambassador. The ambassador is the representative to that country of the government of his country.

Made a lot of sense back when communication took weeks and months. Kind of out dated today.

Never thought we'd see the Irish Catholics side with the Muslims over the Jews.

The IRA was allied with the PLO forever. Used their training camps in North Africa. Irish hotels are overflowing with Syrian and Libyan "refugees". Choices have consequences.

If you go to Northern Ireland, you'll see Palestinian flags in the Catholic neighborhoods, you'll see Israeli flags in the Protestant neighborhoods. They equate the struggles in Ireland to those in Israel. As a tour guide said to me in Belfast, he never saw anyone from Israel or Palestine offering support or assistance to Ireland during the struggles.

Is this true? I looked it up and it said "jack" was the most popular baby boy name for 2023. But who knows what to believe...wouldn't surprise me.

Embassies give state department bureaucrats and appointed ambassadors a place to play aristocrats.

Speaking from personal experience.

Well, just about every Muslim family has a Mohammad, but not every Irish or European family has a James. They're split between James, Jack, Edward, George, Fred, Colin, Luke, Matthew, etc. Makes sense Mohammad would be near the top even though it's a minority.

It probably means less trade between the two. But if face to face meetings are needed, you would think the ambassador in London could get there in hours.

Kevin is traditionally the most popular Irish name. Kevin Gerard Barry (20 January 1902 1 November 1920) was an Irish Republican Army (IRA) soldier who was executed by the British Government during the Irish War of Independence. They all started naming boys Kevin.

I hate to see what Ireland has become. They have become a leftist country and are paying a dear price for it.

Ireland's record in international politics isn't exactly great. Their hate for England pretty much clouds everything else.

Not surprising that the same panzies that sat out of WW2 despite getting BOMBED by Germany, would side with the nazis against Israel today.

And Eamon de Valera even gave condolences to the German ambassador for the death of Adolf Hitler.

Is it an embassy or is it just an office down the hall? I mean this is Ireland we're talking about.

Ireland did allow Israel to build an actual embassy there. In 1993.
