Curious what the difference is between how long an average local waits for hip surgery and how long Nancy does.
I bet she gets special treatment and goes right to the front of the line for hip donor!
At 84, a broken hip is usually the beginning of the end.
First thing I thought.

Unless she's up for some rigorous rehab - which most 80+ year old's aren't - this is more of a game ender than a game changer.

If she gets an infection, she's likely done.

Sepsis is a big deal. Most of it seems to happen after the bone is set with pins or replaced. It's a closed wound infection. It seems (to a layman's reading) like most cases are only discovered when the fever begins.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26016287/

Quote:

Patient demographics show that there were 40 (80%) female patients and 10 (20%) male patients with a diagnosis of hip fracture. The control group included 35 (70%) females and 15 (30) males. An association between hip fracture and increased mortality was found, with a significant p value of 0.001. The main cause of death among hip fracture patients in our study was sepsis in 7 (35%), while among the control group it was myocardial infarction in 3 (15%). Time wise, mortality was found to be higher within the first six months, with 10 deaths (50%), and within the first year, with six deaths (30%).

Not that I care if Pelosi can walk again, but she needs to come to Houston to line up for Dr Le at Methodist Willowbrook...he replaced both of my Wife's hips...she was up and walking (with walker) in 1 day, and out of the hospital in 2. Walking on her own in a little over a week...leaned on me some and held my arm...but that's not bad

Very little pain...different from traditional hip replacement...no dislocation and butchering of the hip to get to it...short little 2" scar underneath...and now accepted by Medicare...

My mother had the old style replacement...at 85...

2 wks convalescing.

Sat around, and therapy for 6 wks...

In socialized medicine countries, like Canada and the UK... don't they weigh the value and life expectancy for treatment to determine whether or not to perform. Obamacare had originally placed such importance.

At 80+, I would think most serfs in those countries don't have access to hip surgery. Yet, she'll not only qualify, but move to the front of the line.

Won't apply to her. Not widely reported but most of these socialized healthcare countries have added privatized options back into the mix because they realized full blown government healthcare is a disaster and doesn't work. If you have the money (and she obviously does), she will get good care.

I am not seeing the possible legislative purpose for this trip to commemorate a battle fought 80 years ago.

And that should be a requirement for such trips, a legislative purpose.
And they all need to learn to use Zoom rather than travel.

Politically, I cannot stand her but I don't wish ill health on anyone. That said, I had a doctor tell me that the fatality rate for broken hips in older people is extremely high.

Nor do I wish ill health on her.

That said, if she does succumb, we all know the California Democrats have nasty, despicable replacements stacked up like cord wood ready to replace her.

Let's see if she is stabilized and then flies back for treatment. I suspect that is what will be done. Watch flight aware for USAF planes that may be transiting to Luxembourg. She will be home soon.

Best care she would get there probably wouldn't be nearly as good as she could get here. Experience counts and the EU docs simply don't get the reps like they do here. They'll fly her back once she's stable enough to do so.

She was a Democrat born and "attempted" bred, but Teddy didn't have much success guiding Alice. When a cabinet member said to him "Why don't you do something about Alice", TR said (approximately), "I can govern the country or I can govern Alice, but I can't do both". She wasn't really a public rabble rouser but when she had something to say, by God she said it. She might have had -- "might" being the operative word because nobody put words in her mouth -- something to say about Pelosi and her like.

Please excuse the hijack. But there has only been one Alice Roosevelt Longworth.
