I could see they thought it would be good so that the shutdown of the app happened under Biden's watch knowing it would upset a core Dem demographic, youth.

In reality, the date was set in the original bill writing which was done months before it was passed. It was passed by the Senate and sat in the House for a while before they finally passed it. Either no one did the math to know what day it would go into effect or Johnson set the vote so it would likely trigger under Biden. Note: I will agree if Biden had signed a day later, it would have been after the new President was in office but at that point he was still running and I am sure was confident he would win.

PS. The original senator that introduced the bill was Hawley in March 2023, not exactly known as a Dem or CM.

I'd prefer it be wholly owned, or that America, or an American, has majority ownership of it, plus an infinite amount of safeguards attached to make sure no matter what Xi Jinping says or does, there's no way he or any CCP, can get any American's private data.

As long as a Chinese company has any ownership interest, you should assume the Chinese government has access to all of the data. They are great at hacking systems they don't own including US government servers, imagine the ease if they own an interest in the company.

Fair enough.

My main point was, though, that I don't have a problem letting Trump actually deal with this. If it was going dark right as he comes into office, that would have been dumped on Trump as a negative. Now at least he gets to deal with it himself. As opposed to all the EOs that Biden dumped on Trump right at the end with the intent to hamstring him.

FWIW, I think TikTok is ***** I work for the TAMU system so I can't have it on any computer/phone that can access my work stuff (like email, etc). So I don't have it on anything - I only used it before when one of my kids sent me a video...

I do believe that the CCP is trying to spy using it. Hell, I work in the UAS field so any Chinesium is verboten on any UAS that we use. They're evil ****ers.
