The last handful of uber drivers and uber eat drivers I've had in College Station have all had 830 area codes which is Eagle Pass up to San Antonio. They all speak broken English and are clearly immigrants. The one tonight was African but has a south Texas area code, how are they getting license here and working for a national company like Uber?

So all Tom Homan has to do to round illegals is order food? Seems like something he could do.

Uber contracts with third parties to conduct background checks of everyone including immigration status. No one is supposed to be driving for them without a valid ID and proof of legal status in the United States. They also do criminal background checks. It's too much liability for Uber not to do so.

It's hard to believe they're all legal, it's been a while since I've used Uber and it was clearly an American

Lol, rules are made for breaking, homie. I've had a few in the Houston area that I've been pretty suspicious about. No English, crap cars, awful driving, and absolutely no clue how to get around the city.

Sickening. Not only did she defraud the companies, but her direct actions led to loss of economic benefits for natural born employees due to the fraudulent people she flooded those companies with. I have nothing but disdain for her. She deserves to be in prison for life.

10,000 words and 75 ads to say "gig drivers who don't qualify for their own accounts are using 'rental' accounts and identity fraud."

A lot of people have work authorization as their "asylum" claims are in process. I'm sure there is also a thing where people borrow each other's driver accounts for a cut of whatever they make that day.

And yeah, just read the article.

It has to be something. What are the chances the last 3 uber drivers in College Station all have 830 codes, two back-to-back in the same night because the first one couldn't find the house?

I use Uber pretty regularly for work. It's almost always immigrants driving, but always in a nice car, and they are usually African. That's from Florida to Arizona.

The only place I have gotten a 'local' Uber driver was in Memphis. It was a good thing that she was local, because I wanted her to make a pit stop to get a bottle of whiskey between the airport and my hotel. I found the closest liquor store on the route and told her to stop there. She flat out told me she wouldn't let me out of the car in that neighborhood and took me to another store in a better environment.

The rules are not being followed, its easy to start driving with Uber, if you know you know.

I have noticed 80% of my latest Uber eats drivers in Houston are foreign and their name/vehicle does not match who the app says. Even men showing up when the app says it is a female.

I suspect people are contracting out their accounts to unregistered drivers and splitting money.

Do not have the same problem with Uber transportation drivers.

Yeah there is an issue of gig jobs sharing between people.. so say one person is legal, passes verification but they share the account with their primos or other family so they work all day but it isnt the approved guy driving or running deliveries. Seems to be a big issue in Houston.

I search it on Bing, it said Eagle Pass and thought it looked like the code went to San Antonio. Could go to Burnet County too. Even still what are the chances of three straight 830 area codes for Uber in College Station, with thousands of kids that would like to have more money?

As somebody who has immigrated legally to another country, I was pretty offended.

But on the other hand, thanks to her for spilling the beans on exactly how you can scam the American system.

On a game weekend, I could see opportunistic drivers changing their operating location to CStat.

When my daughter used to do Instacart, she would go hang out in Sherman Oaks because she got better orders than elsewhere in The Valley.

On the way up from Galveston last Saturday, we saw a number of pedicabs being trailered up to College Station for game day. Must be a worthwhile endeavor.

Funny, the only time in recent history that I've gotten a regular White American was in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the beginning of September.

He told me that the only reason he was driving was because they were paying more because half the drivers in Omaha quit after some punks murdered an Uber driver in Omaha in the previous weeks.

Maybe, just have a hard time believing that's the reason. When we were in Omaha, every driver we had was not American.

Edit: Also, that's next weekend not midweek and a Friday in College Station on an away game weekend. I could see your point if the sips were in town tomorrow. But even with that, that's an illegal company sending illegals to drive 24-7 on a big weekend in College Station. Something is wrong about that, and it hurts BCS workers looking to make good money on the weekend.

Here's the Cliffs on the article.

Brazilian chick bought a one way ticket to the USA on a tourist visa.

Got here, ran out of money.

Found out the she could borrow somebody's identity and start driving Uber, etc.

Then figured out that the real game isn't driving but selling identities to other drivers.

Figures out that Uber ain't really verifying anything.

Makes millions. Gets caught.

Biggest fear is now getting deported.

Uber claims they have tightened up their background checks.

To your first paragraph

I take them rarely, maybe once a month. Last was last month in San Antonio. Both were African, one Saharan and one sub Saharan. One had his entire family here and his daughter was competing in UIL track and was hoping to catch on at UTSA. The other was a friendly enough guy that got us to the Riverwalk.

Have no idea and never really thought about their legalities. I know they were good Uber drivers and seemed like decent enough people. But if they are illegal todaysThose are not the deportation targets. We should be working to legalize folks like that. Quickly. There are plenty of others that we need to go after.
