Should This Be Considered Child Endangerment?

No. I reject that gunny.

It might have been "why didn't the parents do something" but the cops have little obligation here. If anything, it should be why hasn't the police/legislative state done more to stop child Trafficking and arrest such related criminals

But, we don't need a nanny state trying to tell us through "experts" when to leave our kids at home and when to let them walk to the store.

If the kid breaks the law when doing so, then handle it then. Do not present a blanket policy usurping our liberty.

I wasn't walking at that age. I was driving a tractor all alone in a field miles from the house. Dad would come get me at lunch, then take me back to the field after.

Unless there was a pickup no one was using, and I drove myself

The experts advice of childcare has led us to a generation of mental issues. Its led us to falling grades in schools. It led us to kids who can't handle hardships. It's led us to a generation of kids unfit to serve in our military.

Yes, the parents shoulder much of the blame. Of course, when arrest is on the other side of letting your kids have a little freedom to explore, what are they to do?

I know they are guidelines. I agree! They are not laws.

You cannot be arrested and charged for not following guidelines. You cannot! You are arrested and charged and prosecuted for commiting a crime.

The deputy even stated "you commited a crime", which is a lie .

Then you said it was a law before backtracking and stating it is simply a guideline.

Well, it's a law in the fact that if you break these guidelines you will be charged in GA. But I'll admit some of these government websites make it hard to know what's codified and what isn't.
CPS guidelines are not criminal statutes that can result in arrest. CPS is more than capable of engaging in the civil process to remove a child from the home.

Texas law requires the child being put in an unreasonable risk of harm and Texas Appellate Courts have set a very high bar to meet that threshold. Children under ten left unattended next to a busy roadway did not qualify.

I'm more ok with hauling off the parents of every 200 lb 5th grader than I am with parents that let their kids roam free.

The mom said she didn't know where her kid was. She thought he was somewhere on the property, Grandpa was around, but she did not place eyes on him before she took another kid to the doctor. She also purposely ignored calls from the Sheriff's Office when they called her about her son they found walking along the shoulder of the highway. The kid was also homeschooled and raised "free range".

Spidey sense tells me this kid pissed off someone in the community who vowed to call the Sheriff's next time the kid was wandering and Mom knew she was some kind of thin ice.

This- i mean you should be a juror since you just make up your own facts

If the sheriff did that in must about any rural county in Texas, he would likely be kissing his chance at winning his next election goodbye.

This is bada$$. I never thought about doing that, plus we always had our bikes. The only time I got picked up hitch hiking was by some girls after my car ran out of gas.

I hitchhiked from downtown Bryan back to the campus one morning. I was in uniform and so it didn't take someone long to stop. I think I stood there about two or three minutes tops.

I would have told the beatch police officer to go f*** yourself. There is no law regarding a 10 year old walking. She needs to lose her job.

Hell when I was 10 I walked thru the neighbor and across a major road with a 16 gauge shotgun over my shoulder. Then thru another small neighborhood to the railroad tracks. People saw me and no one said anything

Stossel just posted video the other day about free range parenting, how most of us grew up, and the absurdity of the nonsense in the OP.

We rode our bikes all over the place. Went to corner store, bowling alley, miles across town to friends house. This was in SA in late 80s.

If the AG of GA is worth his salt, it's time to use the leftist playbook and lawfare TF out of that DA's office and the arresting police department.

What's the old communist saying? "Show me the man and I will show you the crime." Demoralize and exhaust them. It's the only way this **** ends. When they get enough of their own medicine maybe things will change.

Grew up in the 70s. Went everywhere on my bike. As long as I was home before dark, all was well. I walked or rode my bike to school, about 3 miles, throughout junior high. They might as well go reconstitute my mom from her ashes to make her pay for that child abuse.

My brother was 13 and I was 10 and we would traverse the streets of San Francisco - SAN FRANCISCO - on our own, walking for miles, but always ending up at Tower Records.

Also at 10 I would hike the Sierra Nevadas (just two houses up the road) by myself with the mountain lions, rattle snakes, coyotes, and older teens shooting bottles and cans.

Would bike down the mountain into town to go to the hobby store which was around a ten mile round trip.

When I was under 10, and living on the East Coast, all of the kids would leave the neighborhood and traverse through miles of woods like in a Spielberg film or Stephen King novel.

And people question why Gen X is nostalgic - smh

Mine rode his bike to the pool, couple of miles away when he was 10 in 2013.

In the late 1930's my dad (8 or 9 years old), used to sneak off the fields leaving his brothers to walk from North Carolina across to tennessee to fish in the TVA waters. He did this regularly. He also got his little butt whipped regularly.

Walked 3 miles home from elementary school so I could gather aluminum cans to sell. Would dumpster dive at some local apartments for cans as well. Finally saved enough to buy my first calculator very similar to the one in the pic. For an ever so brief period of time, I was king of the 6th grade math nerds.

I also used to go into the S.F. on the subway with my bike and take bart to Fremont which was 25 miles south. Anybody on the subway could see I was alone or with friends travelling mile and miles alone wiithout adults and Nobody batted an eye.

We would drive a golf cart from a friends house to landa park, play golf, then walk over to schlitterbahn after for a swim in the river. Back to my friends house by 5:30 to get picked up by my mom after work. We were 11-12.

Okay, I'm going to one up all of our childhood stories

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Abernathy_and_Temple_Abernathy

In 1909, rode horseback by themselves from Frederick, OK to Santa Fe,NM and back, ages 5 and 9

1910, rode OK to Manhattan to meet Teddy Roosevelt. Then bought a car and drove themselves home, shipping the horses home by rail.

1911 accepted a challenge to ride NY to San Fran in 60 days, never sleeping indoors, in 60 days. Did it 62, losing the prize of $10,000. (About 300,000 in 2024 dollars)

1913, bought an Indian motorcycle and rode from OK to Manhattan. That's their last documented adventure

They would have been 9 and 13

I walked or biked about a mile to elementary school alone or with my friends everyday in 5th grade.

In middle school, friends and I also biked a few miles to school sometimes instead of taking the bus.

1 mile is not far, it's like a 10-15 minute walk.

She's been given a plea offer to have the charges dropped if she agrees to let social services micromanage her parenting. There's certainly no way she's getting a conviction if this ever goes to trial, but I could see social services moving to take her kids while she awaits trial.

This whole thing is ****ing bull*****
