Given the facts available that is ridiculous. I doubt I would have allowed it but sure sounds like a reasonable decision.
I obviously have no idea the vibe in rural GA.

I'm from a smallish town in East Arkansas and my friends and I would walk 2 or so miles to Wendy's all the time. We were around the same age. Nobody ever thought anything of it. Parents should be able to make these decisions without the law being involved.

We'd go 5-10 miles on our bike.

If this lady could get up to a year in jail, my parents would have gotten the death penalty. When I was that age I once hitched a ride in the back of a stranger's pickup to visit a friend in the next town 14 miles away. My parents were pissed, not because of how I got there, but because I couldn't get a ride back and they had to come get me. This was in the mid-1960s.

I despise when people feel the need to virtue signal in competition to show how much "better" of a parent they are (read as doting/smothering/indulging/hyper-protective) to the extent that they promote or encourage authorities to go after those parents they feel are inadequately smotheringly protective.

Billions and billions of kid have walked a mile from home to do a chores or get somewhere in human history. That is the human normal, not the exception. And the vast majority of those walks have been uneventful. Odds of a mishap are vanishingly small. We just hear about every single one that happens anywhere today due to 24/7 media bombardment so we believe the world is much more dangerous day to day than it is.

Quit coddling children. They need to adventure, to learn, to grow. Overprotection makes them weak and helpless and harms them maybe for life. They neve learn to deal with adversity and know they can overcome challenges

Given the facts in the article that is ****ing absurd. That is extreme over reach on the part of the police department. An 11 year old walked a mile? THE HORROR!!

We've become so soft.

I'd be suing the **** outnof anyone and everyone i could find.

This is ridiculous abuse of police authority and major govt overreach.

And, if I'm going to prison, I'm gonna find the *****ass Karen who called the cops and beat the **** out of them too.

You keep your overprotection of your children to yourself and keep your nose outta my ****ing business.

This clearly pisses me way off.

I from a moderately sized town in east Texas. We used to ride our bikes over 5 or 6 miles into town.

My best friend lived a mile away. Id walk a mile to his house every summer day (he had a pool) which required cutting through people's yards and hopping fences.

The gall that some lady(i presume because I do t believe a man would care) had to call the cops for this and the gall that some police officer decided to arrest the mother is mind numbing

In the 70s, we would take a paper bag with us on our walk to the convenience store and pick up beer cans along the way. We lived along a busy farm-to-market road. After we collected 8-10 bags, Dad would take us to Reynolds Aluminum, and we'd have enough money for several more trips to the store. Pussification of America!

Now do the kids digging for Cobalt 14 hours a day.

Seriously, an entire legion of Karens were created by the Fauci virus. That whole exercise showed just how easy it would be, to have the citizens usher in communism. History.

This. Brownshirts should be ostracized.

And any law enforcement or justices that enable the issue.

If there is nothing else, this is pretty bad. Whether or not you agree with this parent's decision, arresting them is an overreach.

The mom said it's not illegal for a kid to walk to the store and the cop responds it is when they are 10 years old.

So according to the law, what is the age when it is legal for someone to walk to the store? This is laughable

Good mom. This is how it should be done. Best way for a kid to get outdoors and learn some responsibility. We are natural explorers.

That being said, I'm shocked that any mom would allow this today considering the decades of indoctrinated fear. Makes me think mom is on meth. However, I applaud her Dad-like parenting.

The mom said she didn't know where her kid was. She thought he was somewhere on the property, Grandpa was around, but she did not place eyes on him before she took another kid to the doctor. She also purposely ignored calls from the Sheriff's Office when they called her about her son they found walking along the shoulder of the highway. The kid was also homeschooled and raised "free range".

Spidey sense tells me this kid pissed off someone in the community who vowed to call the Sheriff's next time the kid was wandering and Mom knew she was some kind of thin ice.

12. In Georgia they are allowed to be left at home alone from 10-12 at home no more then 2 hours. They can't be out and about.
