True, but I just don't see anything close to a million available jobs in an already stagnant market over the next few years. Once severance runs out, many going to be applying for welfare...it's either that or live in the streets or flee to a diff country or pivot to a life of crime it seems.

Again, I am completely for this....just trying to think ahead in terms of how it impacts society. I hope everyone can just be peacefully absorbed over the course of a few years...but that is A LOT of people seeking employment at once.

The question I've been left with is what degree of decision making does POTUS have unilaterally in axing departments and personnel from the umbrella of the Executive branch, versus what would require Congressional authorization given they control the budget and there will be ad infinitum personal interests that individual members of congress want to protect.

I would send out a survey to all government employees, and ask if they are nervous about the cuts.

If they say yes, they know they aren't needed. Whack those folks first.

don't forget, a lot of them are able to retire on their hefty pensions. Others will simply move back to being single-income families for a while. Others will find new work. When it's all over, it won't be close to the 1 million or whatever the number being let go is.

One of the smarter things they're doing is making the input public and posting the "silliest" misuses of money. Getting the public engaged, creating a posting board where the information is accessible by legacy media, etc. all helps get the populace aligned on the necessity of making cuts, which in turn relieves the pressure from politicians having to actually make decisions.

Should be interesting to follow along with over the next year or so.

There is so much that the Feds are doing that we don't need, or need as much. Some ideas:

1. Axe Department of Education. No more welfare for universities that inflates tuition costs. If a student needs a loan to go to college, they get it from a bank. Just like everyone else. Too many folks are just hanging out in universities getting useless degrees anyway.
2. Axe Department of Veteran Affairs. Any veteran, either retired or medically retired, gets an ID that can be used at any hospital/medical facility for whatever they need. Sell all the VA hospitals. The VA loan apparatus along with Disability determinations rolls back under SecDef where it belongs.
3. Greatly reduce EPA and OSHA. Put most all of their 'functions' back to the States.
4. Consolidate the various civilian Intelligence agencies into one.
5. Axe Department of Energy and reduce/roll up the remaining functions under Department of Interior.
6. Get the US Army Corps of Engineers back to oversight of real navigable water ways, not rivers/creeks in states that are not feasible for commercial traffic.
7. Congressional term limits. Greatly reduce pensions for elected officials. Put in incentives for Congress to not be a life time career.
8. Axe TSA. Let local cops do their jobs. Quit feeling up Grandmaw.
9. Take a meat axe to DoD. Fire lots of flag ranks and get rid of so many redundant 'Commands' and the waste of assets that keeps them afloat. Get the various components down to more combat related units and less bloat. Get the warriors back and ditch all the DEI nonsense. We won WWII with less that 10 each 4 Star Generals/Admirals. Why do we need 100 of them now?
10. Get rid of public sector unions, at least at the Federal level. For starters.

Bill Ackman, Billionaire, on the Megyn Kelly Show..."Incentivize the severance packages. Make it a year's severance doled out each month. If you get a job in the private sector then you will get a lump sum payment of the remaining severance." Sounds like a brilliant solution. Then you probably wouldn't have massive unemployment numbers once the severance runs out.

I never thought about cutting unemployment, but that's a great idea. Six months is way too long to need to find a job. Every restaurant needs dishwashers and every convenience store is always hiring.

Just because you lost your six figure salary job that doesn't mean you can't take a minimum wage job until you find the right one.

The higher the pay, the longer the job search. This has always been true. DOesn't mean you shouldn't have socked stuff away for emergencies. I think its a bit more nuanced but 100% needs to be cleaned up. People do game it.

After that agencies must only get money to do what Congress approved. So continuous budget resolutions must end.

Every new Agency and Department head will submit a plan in 3 months to reduce staff, office space, and budget to comply with congressional approval. Minimum reduction to start is 40percent.

Disposition of federal real property and leases that are not used is going to take a lot more than 2 years. Average lease is 7 years. Not sure how to do this quickly.

Most Fortune 1000's are giving ~3 months and then a week for each year of service after that. 32% of Fed employees are over 55. Between no backfills and targeting that group with some kind of special pension incentives likely gets massive numbers of folks out.

Additionally, revoke any future retirement benefits. Pay back whatever they paid in but disallow them from being able to collect a pension of any kind. This is a perfect opportunity to begin sunsetting federal pensions.
