We should see almost 1,000,000 bureaucrats fired by Trump. That's about a third. 98% of them fall under his direct control.

Jackson fired about 15% during his term; this bloodletting will definitely exceed that.

I expect Marc Elias to go full lawfare on their behalf.

I've been hearing that severance packages are being created. These cuts will come with some cost, but they must happen.

The DC Metro office market will have an unusual correction. Most will have long term government leases with no tenants. The cost cutting will have a lag due to the leases, serverance packages, and pensions. WTS, there will be a notable drop in cost in years two and three.

Making a Govt. small enough to fit inside our constitution.

ETA: I didn't make that up. A Congressman/Senator ...... Davidson perhaps......... on the Mike Slater show said that.

Costs?! What costs? We are paying their salaries now...so cutting them and paying a severance doesn't cost us anything we aren't already spending.

Given how much opposition there's going to be, I think it's important we make sure and speak correctly. If the media is able to spin this as these cuts are costing us money, makes it even harder to sell.

We won't be spending any more money than we would be...just that we will have a huge cost savings in year 2 and 3 and on once the severances have been paid out.

Well, if we boot out about a million illegals, I see some construction, agriculture, and food service industry jobs opening up.

So instead of them wasting taxpayer dollars on useless programs, they will go to the private market and actually contribute?

Any severance above 6 months is stupid. Welcome to the real world in finding a job that expects you to actually work and show up.

Sounds good, but these DC liberals are not capable of doing manual labor.

Musk has said it several times himself the severance will be almost 2 years. He said they're not just going to put them out on the street and endanger them financially...they just want them to go do something else and not come back to government.

Then they can become adults and get a real world job in the private sector. I cannot wait to see the videos of people crying about having to actually work. It will be must see TV.

Musk suggested on Rogan to make the severances extremely generous, like 1-2 years of salary.

He said the people will be more useful doing something else than working for the government. He said let them take another job, or just take time off. They aren't trying to put people on the street, just get them doing something different.

In reality though, how will the private job market handle absorbing A MILLION recently unemployed people? That's a lot of people entering the workforce.

To be clear...I do not care for these people or have sympathy...but does this negativel;y affect the economy, or me and my family somehow?

I think the worry is if you pay them pennies they will fight and be lawsuits. You pay them a year or 2 and you get them to sign their right to sue away, you already budgeted that money and in year 3 everything is gone and they can go to college or training and actually contribute. There are likely entire families of moms, dads aunts and uncles sucking off the government teet. If they are all let go with a month severance then there would be mostly peaceful protests.

Many of these DC peeps have degrees. However, they just walk around carrying papers and going to meetings without expertise. Then in a year or two, they are given the title of, analysts or advisor and don't know squat about the topic. There are many really good gov workers but 60-70 percent could be thinned out.

They don't produce anything so there won't be a drop off in production at all. If their severance is 1-2 years salary then I would argue we will see an increase in spending in the near term because I would also assume these are not physically responsible people as a percentage.

No matter what, eventually we are going to have some hard times absorbing such a major shift, but it should be seen as a prescribed burn. This is an absolute necessity and the country should be prepared to absorb some of the lumps along the way.

They can learn to code.

I don't have the answer to your question. But I know this, they will have to make some hard decisions and sacrifices to get back into the workforce that actually makes your work.

Good point. Many of us are thinking about labor lost, products manufactured lost. However when speaking about the Federal Govt., their product is spending our money and most of the time spending our money for fake services.

Not claiming you are saying this, but this is a false premise too many are stating. If the number of illegals that have come over in the last 4 years is 10 million (for rounding sakes), then we could deport, easily 75% of that number and have ZERO impact on the labor market. There has not been 10 million new jobs created in the last 4 years. Most of these people are not working and just living in hotels and getting free meals.

I doubt we deport anything close to 5 million people, so again, whatever the number is, there will still be plenty of labor available to do the work.

The Republicans have been full of crap since they have been complaining about it. For years we have been screaming for cuts but always get the same BS excuse, oh we just do not have time, we have to pass it so the Government won't shut down. Lazy and Fing weak ass excuse does not play anymore.

Vivek posted yesterday we have 1200 programs that we continue to fund that have long looong expired. So HOW THE F WAS THAT NOT CUT?????????

All these years and yall couldn't get that done? Really?

After this gets cleaned up, we cannot ever have that crap happen again, they have bankrupt us

Your math doesn't math. There aren't 1 billion employees but 1 million employees at $100K is $100B annually so that part is correct. What's sad is the interest on our debt is over $1 trillion, so it only shaves a tenth off our debt.

So yes, we need MORE!!!! Eliminating employees hopefully is a small part of dismantling the bloated monstrosity we call the federal government.

There are more permanent contractors than actual employees. My best count is 9m total full time people making ~$120k - ~150k ...I'd go for a full quarter...so 2.2m between the two. This process should be relatively straightforward.

  • No backfills in any agency...this will take care of about half of the cuts needed in 3 years
  • Offer early outs based on age...~30% of all federal employees are over 55; 42% over 50 years of age...none can be rehired
  • Cut the distance between the top and bottom level to no more than 7 in any agency
  • Increase spans to 12
  • Cut 50% of all department head roles and their associated bureaucracy
  • Set a permanent cap on the number of employees that can be employed in the federal gov't thru any means..that is, no loophole for using a contractor instead of a permanent employee

This is one small part of what DOGE is doing. They are looking at programs, grants, all funds, everything. 100B here and there will get to 1T fast. Elon said he can cut 2T and I firmly believe that he can do it.
