Agree. If these R Senators support the rest of Trump's agenda but don' fall in line for one or two cabinet nominees, it won't amount to a hill of beans the next time they're up for reelection, which is 2 to 6 years from now.

Confirmation only takes a simple majority.

The Republicans majority can basically rubber stamp the deal (that's what the democrats would do).

for someone like Kennedy, I agree. He could vote no on Gaetz and not miss a beat. I don't think he will, but he is safe.

So let look at potential "no" votes.

Collins & Murkowksi. They aren't worried about a primary from Musk.

Capito. would be shocked to see her go against Trump.

McConnel.. Does he intend to run in 2026? If not, he doesn't care about a primary challenger.

Cornyn. Same as above. I think he is running again, so he will be in the "yes" category unless there is a huge amount of republicans voting no.

Thom Tillis. I don't think he is a no vote, but a primary challenger is not his concern. He has to worry about winning the general in a purple state that went barely red in a red wave across the nation.

If these appointments fail at their jobs, then it will cost Republicans their majority in short order. It matters that they are successful and Senate Republicans should critically examine whether these appointments are qualified. I'm baffled why anyone would take cues from what the Democrats would do when the rank incompetence of the last administration led to their landslide defeat.

There's one in every bunch that gets hung out to dry for some unforeseen reason. Whether it be the illegal nanny, unpaid taxes, or just general ****** baggery one nominee will get burned. The Senate will want to send the message "we won't roll over for every thing you want you will have to deal with us." Not saying it will be one of the big ones like Gaetz or RFK but one of Trump's nominees will get ***** slapped.

Bill Cassidy hates Trump. That gets you to 50. Maybe the 4th depends on the nominee.

Will have to see how the confirmation hearings go. The other Republicans seem willing to give him a chance but many would abandon him if the confirmation hearings don't go well. I think Gaetz is a very strong possibility of a recess appointment, but it won't last. eventually courts will knock him out.

Perhaps but why waste capital on Gaetz when there are other confirmable candidates who can do the job without as much fireworks? Time is very critical. Anything that is a distraction or delays eviscerating DOJ from the inside could derail the entire effort.

Well, duh. If there are 50 Senators in favor of recess to allow a recess appointment of Gaetz, wouldn't that mean there are 50 votes to confirm him? And then the tie breaker?
