I need to make a statement.

This morning on CNN I referred to Trump's "rifles" quote as him advocating a "firing squad" for Liz Cheney. I was reacting in haste to what were objectively appalling and irresponsible comments that had been framed in the set-up piece in the context of previous statements Trump made about shooting protestors and having generals "executed." Still, I was wrong to say he was calling for a firing squad execution. After I said that, my co-panelist, Brad Todd made the case that I was wrong. Brad was right and, again, I was wrong. Trump was making albeit in his customary fashion a different argument about Cheney's alleged foreign policy views and the use of force. I let my disgust at Trump's comments get the better of me as this was the first time I'd heard them.

In fact, at the end of the program, having thought about it, I said as much (though I could have been clearer). A fact that has been left out in a lot of the criticism of me since this morning. In other words, I voluntarily conceded the point, unprompted, before any of this subsequent criticism came my way. (You can find it around the 2:20 mark in the video below).

I regret the initial comment because it was inaccurate and contributed to the kind of overheated environment Trump thrives on.

Trump's words were bad enough.

But it's worth noting that a lot of the criticism about my inaccuracy is itself somewhat inaccurate, or at least incomplete, given my correction.

Trump broke Jonah.
What a pathetic apology.
A perfect example of a word salad jumble of BS. And then the capping statement blaming President Trump for a complete lie," I let my disgust at Trump's comments get the better of me as this was the first time I'd heard them. …,,, I regret the initial comment because it was inaccurate and contributed to the kind of overheated environment Trump thrives on."
Victim blaming is a uniquely Democratic pathology.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

Cheney voted with Trump's position with about 93% of the time, which was more than many other colleagues. She voted against the first impeachment. Why didn't she "jump ship" then?

It was only after the events of Jan 6 that she decided she'd seen enough and voted for the second impeachment. So basically, Trumpers are against her because she called him out on his BS election denialism, claim she's a "warmonger" because her father is Dick Cheney and basically demonize her because she had the political courage to do what she felt was right, unlike most of the GOP who have grown spineless to criticize Dear Leader in the face of MAGA cultism.

She's become unhinged. There is no way any republican or conservative could possibly support Harris. If they do, they simply are not a republican or conservative. You can hate Trump all you want, and you can sit the election out or vote libertarian or do a write in, but you cannot vote for Harris, and you certainly can't publicly support her. If you do, you are supporting:

Amnesty and citizenship for millions of illegals
Continued importation of aliens in massive quantities, including criminals
Reparations for slavery
Gun restrictions
Increased taxation on corporations which will be passed down to consumers
DEI enforcement
Transgender promotion for children
Fewer prison sentences and low bale requirements
Tax money sent to selected liberal groups
Limits on Freedom of Speech
Use of IRS and justice system against Americans who are not politically aligned
An end to the two party system - one party rule from now on. Essentially an end to democracy.

No person who has not been brainwashed can support those things. Certainly not a conservative or any republican. Liz Cheney has mentally checked out.
I disagree.

Cheney hasn't checked out. She wants back into the beltway. She's burned her bridges with the Republicans, so she's swapping sides.

She's revealed herself, and her father, as political mercenaries whose principles are negotiable as long as the money keeps flowing and the halls of power are personally attainable.

She jumped ship when she did because she's a politician. Trump was on the way out, democrats on the way in, so she maneuvered herself to be in the favor of those in charge. That simple. She's a politician that stands for nothing and to imply she made a stand with "courage" is laughable. It takes no courage to adopt the position that's blasted out as truth by 95% of the press and media.

Her voters rightfully threw her out. Her job was to represent them, not play politics. But Liz is good. She's a media darling now running the television circuit and given a platform on social media by the usual legacy media suspects.
That makes no sense. She lost her seat because of it. The easy way would have been to go with the crowd along with the majority of the GOP.

What makes no sense? Yes she lost her seat. But she's making a **** ton of money now on the TV circuit. She's often invited to write editorials as a "Republican". Was on the View.

So she may have lost her seat but emerged far richer and more powerful.

Hilarious you still think it would've been easier for her to stay in Congress. So have you dropped the courage claim and are now focused on the practicality?

There is a vast unequal application of the rule of law against Trump compared to every other politician in DC, and you know it.

If Trump is really a criminal so is:
1) Hillary
2) Joe Biden
3) Hunter Biden
4) Garland
5) Possibly Harris.

He's not stupid. But, he says tons of stupid things. He's still better than Harris, because he actually says things that have actual meanings instead of saying "We need to have a land of opportunity so that the people of this land have an opportunity to take advantage of opportunities"

There is a Trump and Catholicism thread on the first page. There are a lot of people here that have twisted themselves in knots for years that:

A) Trump is a born again Christian
B) Trump is a "baby Christian" just starting out
C) he is the modern king David
D) one poster compares him to Jesus in respect to his persecution

I have no issue with people supporting the guy and more than a few feel the need to play up a Christian faith in the guy that he has never claimed or shown.
