Does the truth matter though? Did the truth that Ford likely made up the assault by Kavanaugh matter? No, it's all about narratives.
We're no longer living in the age of Bill Clinton and certainly not Gary Hart. The media has altogether stopped defending themselves against charges that they are the propaganda wing of the democrat party. They embrace it now. They may not make it an explicit part of their brand, but make no mistake, they're not running from it.
The democrats/left know they have cover and, over the last decade or so, have gotten so sloppy about things like this. I'm not saying I know one way or the other (or am willing to make a prediction). I'm just saying your assertion here assumes facts which are no longer true and haven't been true in quite a while.
There was no "vetting" process with these guys. Hell, Ted Kennedy was a murderer, as well as a serial sex harasser. He stayed in the Senate for decades and ran many campaigns without any scrutiny, and that was in the years prior to 2000. He wasn't alone. How many times has that idiot from New Jersey been in trouble with the feds, yet no one knows who the Senator from NJ is or what his recent felony charge is. There's no "gossip" as you suggest, just an assumption that if they have a D by their name, you vote for them -- at least for some groups.
