I was sitting at a drug store lunch counter a couple of years ago when people's cell phones started beeping as they received an Amber Alert. It felt kind of like that scene in The Hunt for Red October where everyone's beepers start going off.

My cell phone was one of the last to get the alert. I guess if you have a Trakfone, you must be last in line. I don't mind.

That said, not one person at the lunch counter appeared to be going around to see if the subject of the Ambert Alert happened to stop there for a bite to eat.

So who gets to decide if they get to send out a blue alert? I was awakened early, like everyone else. I remember asking myself, "What was this person thinking when they pushed the button to send this out to the entire state.?"

My Japanese phone with a Kalifornia number didn't get anything - just how I like it.

Kinda funny the tweet in the OP was complaining about getting the notification in Tarrant County, and the suspect was eventually apprehended there

And just like every Amber alert, I'm sure the blue alert played a big role in his capture.
