In McKinney... I have iPhone alerts turned off overnight too... i guess since I was up and on the phone that the alert goes through

He'll, it would be better to have a 10:00p.m. nightly alert without the sounds effects. They could cover all statewide: Amber, Silver, and Blue alerts each night
No updates, then a very short report.

I'm in SE Harris County. Got the alert, checked all the doors to make sure they were still locked (they were), looked outside to make sure there was no activity (there wasn't), then called HPD to let them know my neighborhood was ok.

My phone is still going off every 10 min with this alert. I have dismissed it, rebooted the phone, turned all alerts off, and it is still going off.

On my Samsung android, it seems like you can't silence these with do not disturb, they're either on or off. But this blue alert came across as "extreme" which is the same as a tornado warning. I don't want to lose the tornado warning altogether, especially at night.

Whatever bureaucrat controls these alerts needs a better classification system. I have an alert type for "public safety message". That seems more appropriate.

That is why I turn off the alerts and set Do Not Disturb on my phone. If you are on my list of favorites you can wake me up at 3 in the morning, but if you abuse that you fall off the list.

I did
I have my iPhone silence those alerts when my phone has the sleep focus on.

The issue is that the National Weather Service issues these alerts and despite being able to send regional weather alerts, the AMBER and other emergency alerts can only be deployed at the state level and there has been no funding to modernize these broadcasts.

Got it in Tarrant County. Woke me up. Brutal.

I also knew this wasn't happening in real time. The actual crime was committed, as previously stated, hours before. Why they chose to send out the alert at this hour I have no idea.

Seriously, someone should have to answer for it. I don't mean in terms of being punished, I mean being required to get in front of a microphone and explain why the decision was made.

I know it sucks, but remember the grandad and grandsons that got killed by the prison bus escapee, a few years back, that was in their weekend cabin??

There's a TON of guys (from DFW/etc)headed out to their deer leases in Hall/Childress/Donley county, today, to bowhunt this weekend. The guy COULD be holed up in a camper in someone's deer camp. Probably good to warn folks, before they get there, to be on the lookout.

Let's be real…all those people are more likely to get shot by some road rager in Houston/Dallas/SA or any of the roads between than they are from this guy. There is no alert system for that.

Abuse of the system like this just makes people turn it off. I'm still confused why I need to be notified for an officer involved shooting any more than any other of the violent crimes that happen every day in the state, but that's a different topic.

Turning off amber alerts should also turn off silver, blue, whatever alerts. I have the emergency government alerts on for extreme weather kinds of alerts. These tools are abusing the alert system.

This was an idiotic alert at 5 am, and those who initiated it deserve all the heat they're receiving for it.

Yep. I started getting so many alerts and notices that I turned them off. The only thing my cell phone bothers me with now are telephone calls, but only if they aren't marked as spam.

I didn't see the message until I happened to turn the phone on to check for messages.
