That's like 15 ****ing people to carry a small log like 40 feet. And they probably think they're being productive.

Looks like only one of them knows how to use a chainsaw.

We don't even know if they were cutting anything. It may have already been cut up.

It is a photo op. All they are missing is Chuck Schumer putting cheese on raw patties.

Typical of government workers. After one of the hurricanes, in our area the power was out for 12 or 13 days. They eventually had truckloads of stuff to hand out, but local people needed to do the distribution. It was in the parking lot of the football stadium. Several of us showed up, there were two groups, each handing out to a line of vehicles. One group was ordinary citizens, the other was police department, fire department, sheriff's deputies.

The latter group had all their stuff grouped together, cases of water, boxes of MREs, and boxes with cleaning items in them. Each vehicle was to get one of each. A car would pull up, two or three of them would grab a case of water, then two of them would put the case back, same for the other two items. They would have those in the vehicle open the door, fiddle with getting the stuff inside the vehicle, just typical thumb up your ass sort of thing.

Our regular citizen's line staged three piles of the hand outs, one pile of each of the things to be handed out. The piles had about a car length spacing between them. As they would slowly drive through, one person would hand out something from their pile of cases of water, then when they got to the MREs one person would hand out a case of those, same for the cleaning supplies. If a pickup, we put it in the back, if a car, we put it on top of the car. A couple of people were walking down the line telling those in line how we were doing it, and to pull ahead and off to the side after they were out of line and put the stuff inside their vehicle. We were doing 6 to 8 vehicles for every one the other group did. Cars would leave their line and get in ours. Things started to get a little chippy and I thought it was going to escalate when someone told them they didn't know what they were doing and it would be better if they just left and let the civilians handle it, lol.

during hurricane harvey, my neighborhood had a group that was moving sandbags just like in the video above.

i just started grabbing 2-3 bags at a time off the truck and carrying them the length of their line just to prove a point (exhausting as it was). not sure if the dirty looks i got was more from not being a team player, or just showing them how stupidly inefficient they were.

Catching up on this thread. How do I reconcile what I'm seeing in those videos with the death toll reported by officials? Seems like the same thing as COVID where deaths are categorized across multiple buckets.

If someone dies of complications from diabetes because their insulin expired with no power, they died of Helene.

If someone died because they couldn't use their CPAP machine with no power, that's Helene.

If someone died because they ran out of water, that's Helene.

Wtf am I missing? And why can't they "dual tag" deaths to get a proper estimate.

Dual tag? As in "directly" related vs "indirectly" related?

Yes, exactly. Anything else just obfuscates the true impact

Yeah, that number will never be reported.

I just got back from Burnsville, NC. Myself and a couple coworkers went down there to help rebuild Halls Chapel Baptist Church. While there, I noticed one common theme with nearly everyone that I came across and that was overwhelming defeat. NCDOT is doing as much as they can to make roads accessible but they're overwhelmed.

We made camp in a church members backyard. You could hear generators running all night. So power is still not restored in some hard to access areas.

Where we were along the South Toe River the velocity of the river was clocked at 82 mph. From word of mouth we heard that in Yancey County there were still 90 people that are still unaccounted for. After church services on Sunday a member shared a story of having his teenage son ripped from his arms. His body was found near Newport, TN.

There's no telling what the indirect impact will be at this time. All I can say is that they still need help. Donations are flowing in but there's a shortage of manpower. Hoping for a mild winter! The national guard was present but there was still a lack of a FEMA response.

That's because FEMA is out of money… somehow… even with sky high taxes. What a scam our government is and what a travesty. It really pisses me off.

There are far, far more DIRECT deaths than are being reported.

I have friends in some of areas that were flooded. There are posts on their Facebook feeds. Some posts are videos and these friends may personally know the folks. It's not first hand but it's locals filming in the areas they are working in.

Also, based on numbers of people still missing.

Wow...that's about 50 miles from Burnsville.

Not surprised. The last victim from the wimberley flood was found on the other side of 35. That flood was big but nothing compared to what happened in North Carolina.
