My Dad felt the same way about the Red Cross. He would unleash holy hell on the Red Cross stone cold sober. He was in the Marine Corps in WWII and Korea. That is where he experienced the Red Cross and whatever happened between them there wasn't good.

Dad was generous to a fault with both time and money. Red Cross wasn't getting anything from him though.

There will be challenges for the people physically displaced by this disaster to place a vote, but is this enough population to affect the whole state of NC? I can't imagine that this administration's apparent indifference is going to play well with those that will be able to vote everywhere else in NC. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe their state pride is different there, but if the Biden administration was treating West Texas like this the rest of our state would be ready to go to war.

A 48 hour pause after the flooding event is expected. A 96/120 hour pause after this flooding event is unforgivable.

You can gripe and complain about these people for not bring prepared for something they've never had to prepare for. But fact is, our government had no prepared response.

Military on standby just seems like something that would be standard operating procedure.

I've reached new lows when it comes to government response. I'm going to take prepping to another level now.

Friend with a vacation home up there said they have heard that people are getting saved by citizens and cannot find an open hotel, feds booked up most in the bad areas.

Sure doesn't feel like the government works for the citizens anymore

I have seen many videos like this. All of the donations locally are private and FEMA/government is no where to be found.

It is all I can do to not Fedpost about this situation. I am so damn angry at the sheer lack of response. I refuse to believe it is not deliberate.

Almost seems at this point they will arrest more people than save. If the government won't help then get out of the way. Americans will always help Americans in need of help in situations like these. There are several non profits like Save our Allies that have a lot of contacts in the US government being told to stand down. Just like they told them to stand down in Afghanistan. Such a cluster

The recovery is going to be astronomically expensive. The entire landscape has changed. You have to start from ground zero here because this damage is so far beyond anything anyone has ever seen. The costs from this storm will easily exceed Harvey and Katrina.

Or we could face the reality that all of the regulation and paperwork will cause extreme cost and delays that aren't strictly necessary and could be greatly streamlined for this one time event to reduce needless cost and human suffering.

I'm not saying go in recklessly and wantonly but that it might be prudent to settle on a few generally functional basics and go from there and skip the rest of the BS is infrastructure replacement.

This is really really bad. FEMA is incapable of reaching many of these areas because they are only accessible by air. We need national guard help desperately here.
FEMA has to cough up funds to put National Guardsmen on Active Duty orders to support disaster relief operations.

It does appear to be deliberate. Almost like they want to displace any survivors to a different, possibly much more blue voting area. But it's probably because they spent all their FEMA money on illegal immigrants and having to publicly ask Congress for additional emergency funding is a bad look too terrible to tolerate a month before the national elections. Always remember that it's not about serving the people you govern, but rather maintaining your power over those people.

I was watching drone footage of the section of I-40 that runs parallel to the Pigeon Forge River near the TN/NC border. The whole roadbed collapsed away. Even bringing in a ton of dirt, I don't see how it would be stable ground.

They might be able to temporarily run two-way traffic in the opposing lanes with a single lane for each direction. However, I also wonder about the stability of that land.

The may ultimately need to put in a double-decker interstate like I-70 through Glenwood Canyon in Colorado.

Quote:

The Waffle House Index is a metric named after the ubiquitous Southern US restaurant chain Waffle House known for its 24-hour, 365-day service. Since this restaurant always remains open, it has given rise to an informal but useful metric to determine the severity of a storm and the likely scale of assistance required for disaster recovery

Helicopters are the primary need at this point because there is no way to reach the hundreds of towns in the area. Reports keep coming in of way more casualties than what is being reported.

Heartbreaking.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

Take with a grain of salt. No confirmation yet and doubt we will get one if this beating happened.

You couldn't pay me enough to wear a FEMA jacket in these towns right now.

I'm starting to see a lot of Fedposts on Tik Tok and elsewhere about people immensely angry at the Feds. These people have nothing to lose because they have nothing already. This is not going to end well for the Feds.

Polite society breaking down as people are getting more desperate and the help is not only not happening, it's being actively opposed by our own government.

THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN IN AMERICA, EVER!

There are going to be severe long lasting consequences from this (lack of) government response. The hatred is building to extreme levels in the region. Appalachia feels abandoned by the government.

Thank god for Churches and private citizens though or else they would be truly only their own.

The ONLY good thing to come from this tragedy...is that more people might now completely hate and distrust the federal government...especially against he backdrop of them giving BILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS to foreign countries that don't matter, and illegal invaders. That is my prayer at least.
