IF DJT can survive until being elected and inaugurated, he must clean house and completely rebuild the SS as well as all of the other Federal law enforcement agencies. Systemic corruption has overtaken them all! Might be a job for an Oliver North type. His very survival depends upon it!
DJT needs to understand what cleaning out really means. He definitely didn't understand that during his first term as President.
For historical perspective, recall that Donald Trump selected Randolph "Tex" Alles (retired Marine MajGen and a Texas Aggie) to be the Director of the US Secret Service in 2017. Trump asked for Alles resignation in May 2019 after an unvetted Chinese national carrying four cell phones, seven SIM cards, nine flash drives, and $8k in cash was allowed enter to Mar a Lago and wander around. What followed is the typical revolving door from a high vis government agency executive job to a lower vis government agency Deputy Under Secretary job. Nice work if you can get it.
Alles resigned in May 2019 but landed on his feet two months later. In July 2019, Alles got a new job as Deputy Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Management where he was also dual hatted with his bosses title and still is assigned presently as the Acting Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Management i.e. he works for Alejandro Mayorkas if I understand the relationship correctly. It would be very interesting to know who was on the selection and hiring committee to recommend Alles for that job.
When Alles resigned as Director of USSS, he was succeeded by James Murray who served as Director from May 2019 until September 2022 when he retired and was succeeded by Kim Cheatle. James Murray is presently the Chief Security Officer for Snap, Inc (Snapchat).
From the James Murray's Wikipedia page:
Quote:
On July 7, 2022, Murray announced his retirement as Secret Service Director, to take effect July 30, 2022. Murray will take the role of Chief Security Officer at Snap Inc., parent company of Snapchat, on August 1, 2022.However, he announced on July 28, 2022 that he would "briefly" delay his retirement, in connection with the investigation into missing Secret Service records (see below). He left office on September 17, 2022.
Missing records investigation.
On July 14, 2022, it was reported that "Members of the U.S. Secret Service erased text messages from January 5th and 6th, 2021, shortly after the Department of Homeland Security inspector general requested them as part of an investigation into the agency's response to the 2021 United States Capitol attack, according to a letter written by the inspector general to congressional leaders (...)" The next day the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol sent a subpoena to Murray seeking, "(...) the relevant text messages, as well as any after action reports that have been issued in any and all divisions of the USSS pertaining or relating in any way to the events of January 6, 2021." On July 20, 2022, Gladys Ayala, the Deputy Inspector General (IG) of the Department of Homeland Security notified the Secret Service that her office was investigating the disappearance of text messages and emails regarding the siege of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, characterizing their disappearance as an "ongoing criminal investigation." She directed the Secret Service to cease any internal investigations into the matter of failure of the agency to preserve the missing records.
(Omitted from mention on the Wikipedia entry for Murray is that those missing text messages also include the messages related to the discovery and investigation of the pipe bomb at DNC HQ.)
