The checkpoints for what I can see were just at the entry into Butler Farms event area. The private property for AGR International is fenced off from Butler Farms, so it probably was not used for entry into the event and didn't have any checkpoints/metal detectors to get into the parking lot.

So its safe to say it was one of those V folding ladders. that fold and collapse up to 5ft and extend to 20'.
In any event that particular type of ladder probably weighs 38-40 lbs or so and is awkward to carry for a long distance by a 120lb kid also carrying a rifle and a backpack.
Not much would draw more attention than somebody awkwardly carrying a ladder. You see a random dude with a ladder your first reaction is 'ok whats going on with this mfer here'

This afternoon, during local radio call-in show on KLJB (Austin), some random guy raised what may be for me the second biggest Secret Service failing I have heard thus far:

I know nothing of protecting a head of state, but I would have immediately cleared a perimeter around the immediate area of the stage to assure no close-in assailant could inflict further damage. Push everyone back; don't willy-nilly let them have unabated access to the president.

It's not plausible. There were multiple people videoing, dozens of people around the area with their attention on the building. How could a second shooter, firing from inside the building go unnoticed??
