Of course, this neglects the fact the Archives asked for them to be returned multiple times and Trump refused, thus necessitating the raid. Once again, an unforced error by Trump.
No. This was all a setup. Every single part. Defending it just makes you look like a fascist.

How was Trump not returning documents part of the setup? Feds knew he wouid hide stuff?
Don't some of the recent filings say that Trump WAS cooperating and returning things or at least locking them up like requested?

Don't know about recent filing, but since the beginning of the case being filed it was known Trump cooperated at the start. The allegation is he stopped.

Did he REALLY stop? Or did they just claim that as a context to pursue this case?

I'm not totally versed in the details. Although I know the media reported it like he was hoarding the stuff like a Colombian drug lord.

As mentioned, Trump had been in negotiations and had NOT "stopped." He ensured the documents in question were locked up. It's the president's right to determine what at personal records and what are not. Some of the documents that were "not returned" are apparently documents that were shipped to Mar a lago (a setup) and he and his people didn't pack them.

The president IS the executive branch and can declassify whatever he chooses. The head of NARA is a raging Trump hater and met with the Biden folks before any of this began.

It was a setup from the start.

You agree that a president can't decide something is declassified after he leaves office, correct?

Like I said, allegation is that he stopped. Also alleged that he asked his lawyers to tell the Feds everything had been returned and asked his workers to hide things.

I don't think we're ever going to see a trial, so those will always remain just allegations

Just out of curiosity, did the FBI ever claim that the picture of the classified documents was taken of them as they were found?
As a follow-on, did the FBI ever inform the public that the picture was staged and inaccurate?
It seems to be a rather common practice to take pictures of contraband that they have confiscated. I don't know that I have ever thought that the pictures were of the contraband as it was found.

For example, here's a drug seizure:

Would anyone assume that the drugs were found piled up neatly on a table with officers standing around the table?
Amazing.

Are the drugs baggies opened and powder dusting the floor?

But who's surprised.

Of course, at that time, Trump was not president.

If he had declassified these documents while he was president, they would have been remarked. But they weren't, so he didn't.

Are you missing that FBI added these marks/covers AFTER they seized them?

That and this one photo is not the chaos grenade that prompted Judge Cannon to cancel the entire trial schedule.

That photo is just the tip of the iceberg.

Why was Trump singled out for requests to return documents? As we've now found out, all Presidents take classified documents with them. No other President was asked to return theirs.

Did Trump have a duty to return classified documents? If you think so, what is your legal basis for your opinion?

Why is Trump being singled out for prosecution? Hell, Sandy Berger was caught stealing classified documents by stuffing them in his socks and he only received a warning to quit being a bad boy. Hillary put classified information on her private servers and in her private emails, both of which were leaked, and then lied about it. Why weren't either of them prosecuted?

Because thats [D]ifferent. These TDS riddled clowns know it's [D]ifferent but are too dishonest to admit it.

It is this sort of thing that would likely make me discount any evidence coming from the FBI or DOJ if I were sitting on a jury in a criminal or even tangential civil case in the future. They've done it to themselves.
I'll never vote to convict on a fed jury.

Well...you and I would have to ensure that whole process was done when we had classified docs.

However, with original classification authority, the POTUS can literally say "this is declassified" and it is. He could even mark through the classification markings with a sharpie and toss the cover sheet in File 13.

Now, it's up to his UNDERLINGS to go make sure that the proper process is followed after that, but...if they never got this physical copy...

What process does a president have to follow to declassify a document? I'm sure you know the steps.

Don't waste your time, I tried to explain the fact that the president is the ultimate OCA when this whole thing first broke but these TDS people refuse to listen. Lead a horse to water and such. I'm not even a huge trump fan (and the idolization and hero worship certainly bothers me) but am honest enough to acknowledge the lawfare he has had to deal with over the past few years, to include this nonsense.

They know it's true. They just want to continue the charade the setup is being used to further.

It is despicable and a literal threat to our democracy; much more than anything that happened on January 6. People should face charges of sedition for this.

How much more info do you need? There's more evidence than is needed already.

The 3 letter agencies all need to be done away with. The heads need to be in prison or executed. The rest can go unemployed without assistance.

At what point do we say this is enough? Never is the answer. We'll never do anything about it. So what's the point of complaining? We're all subjects that will accept what we're told to accept and go about our business

He can't. Has no authority.

Every FBI 1811 signs a geographic mobility agreement as a condition of employment.

Day 1 transfer them all to the newly created Barrow Alaska SAC Office. They will resign in droves.

Just because the Archives say the documents belong to them doesn't mean the documents belong to them.

This should have been handled by a mediation team of some composition along the lines of Cheney, Pence and Gore. Let them sort through what truly was Trump's and what truly was the government's.

Pulling this FBI raid bull**** on a former president is pure Biden sleaze especially now that we've learned the White House was directing the National Archives every step of the way.
