Merchan is a master of kicking the can down the road, while not really kicking it in any direction. Today was last weeks can kicking result...again.

Justice delayed is justice denied. Merchan may be on the receiving end of service of process from a federal suit for denial of due process, denying Trump his right to appeal and have the case thrown out for myriad reversible errors.

Even the most dense of legal dumbasses need to now admit this is entirely political only because of who Trump is. The rest of you who still argue for this are just ate up with TDS.

Technically, it's on hold forever until a judge decides it's not on hold. If merchant retires, a new judge will be in his seat. That person takes over.

But the order appears to Indicate Nov 19 is when the state has to say what it plans to do.

The expectation is that New York is going to drop this case. At least that's what they should do. They are taking this time to review the implications of Trump being president elect.

As of right now, there is a guilty verdict from the jury. So almost everyone thinks he's guilty. But, as you've pointed out, he hasn't been convicted yet.

AND, until that judgement is entered Trump can't appeal.

So, basically he's in a limbo where he's TECHNICALLY not guilty but everyone thinks he is AND he has no recourse to clear his name.

Yes, he doesn't have to have a LEGAL punishment for a conviction this way, but I'd say having your name smeared as a convicted felon IS a punishment.

Since when has a judge ever been forced to do something one party has requested? Or even both parties have requested?

Merchan is not bound to honor any requests if he doesn't want to. Hell, he doesn't even have to rule on each and every defense motion and has not ruled.

That is true! Merchan can rule whenever he wants.

But the fact remains, for now, that he is doing what Trump asked him to do. That could change with the next filing from Team Trump.
