Why is it OK for EVERY hotel in CS to do this on gamedays, but one fast food chain tosses around the idea of pricing based on current demand and all hell breaks loose?

So when Uber initiates surge pricing drivers get paid more but will Wendy's workers receive any additional pay during the lunch rush?

Isn't that how supply/demand is supposed to work? There's increased demand. Now, you can either raise prices to decrease demand during peak hours, or spend more resources on increasing supply to meet the demand. Wendy's has just testing whether surge pricing is cost effective for their business.
This is not a bad thing, in theory, because of what you said. The timing, OTOH, to do this right now with everything else going on makes it not such a good idea. Had they tried this in the Trump years when everyone was happy and not suffering from inflation, it would probably have gone over better.

Wendy's used to be a good value. Now they're overpriced and mediocre. Taco Bell took lots of the stuff with fresh veggies in it off the menu and jacked everything up $1-$1.50 an item. Fast food continues to taste worse and cost more. On the bright side, it's way easier to blow off fast food and wait till I get home to make something. On the other hand, it pisses me off.
I find tostadas easy to make and you get all food groups but fruit.

Beans, beans the musical fruit…

so the future of America is half the population eating Wendy's hamburgers for $15-

and the other half of the population illegally shooting themselves up with Ozempic to lose 10 pounds.

Sir, this is a Wendy's - the price went up $1 while your slow ass was ordering.

I just realized this will add even more anxiety when pulling up to the drive thru behind a certain demographic who take 15 minutes and an entire conversation with the kid on the headset inside to order a fast food meal.

I agree with you but again I was talking about when Chic-fil-a made the Christian play in 2010. I would imagine quite a few liberals considered themselves Christians whether good ones or not. In 2023, I still imagine a good chunk consider themselves Christian even if what they're voting for goes against it and don't practice it.
I think the actual point is You are either pregnant or you are not. There is no halfway.
I agree and was not saying there is a halfway. I personally know plenty of liberals in Austin that are godless progressives, but I know plenty too that voted for Joe Biben and still consider themselves Christians. I think they choose to ignore the obvious or convince themselves conservatives are lying. They've also seemed to convince themselves that supporting what progressives support is what god would do. I in no way agree with that, just my observations.

Question : Is the service better at rush hours? Is the burger better at rush hours...

I think we know the answer to those questions.

More importantly, is the demand higher at rush hours? That's what matters in this case. Supply and demand and all that.

Again, the concept isn't bad, just the timing.

Tanner didn't put a ceiling on how much the dynamic pricing model could spike the cost of a meal or whether the base price would actually fall during slower periods.

Methinks they'll never drop below the base price. Prices always go up and never go down. ****ing the consumer.

Personally, I think happy hour pricing is better.
2-4 half price Margaritas, 2.50 domestic drafts, half price chips and queso

7-close. 3 dollar 12 oz margaritas, 6 dollar ground beef or shredded chicken nachos.

Drives traffic during slower hours.

Not sure if this is going to work with the demographic that frequents Wendy's but there is nothing innovative about the idea. This is called Revenue Management and was invented by the airlines. Hotels later adopted it and then "surge pricing" by Uber/Lyft happened which is just Revenue Management for the gig driving industry.

Been around for decades. And all of you should get used to dynamic pricing becoming more and more common. You are only going to see more of it.

Supply and Demand:

When you are standing at the airport with your bag after you have landed, there are not a lot of transportation options (unless it is taxi versus ride-sharing), so you don't have much choice on Uber surge pricing.

Fast food = lots of choices, and I suspect the consumer will get sophisticated enough to learn to shop and avoid surge pricing.

Unless they all do surge pricing, which kind of sounds like...the "I" word.

And some of you said to leave "partisan politics" out of it.

The Wendy's closest to me surged their prices a while back, therefore business is noticeably sparce. Hardly any cars ever in there or going through the drive. Higher prices, staff hardly speak english and franchisee not cleaning or updating equals death to the franchise located in a nice area. I have been to other updated Wendy's around town and prices were about 20% cheaper. I think this could be the beginning of the end for Wendy.

Plenty of things you can blame on Biden, but this isn't it. It's merely capitalism to its natural conclusion - real time calibration of price according to demand.

It's interesting though because it almost positions them as offering a service rather than a good.

Fire the idiot CEO who came up with this idea.

Now they are backtracking and trying to explain themselves. I go to Wendy type places for a cheap meal. If you try to F with me and nickel & dime me, you will lose me as a customer. Don't play demand and supply games with me.

McD and TacoBell which were my destinations for cheap eats and which gave me nostalgic memories of my lolpoor days in College Station are also expensive these days.

So scrooooo yoooooo Wendy.

And low skill tards and libtards politicians demanding $25PH as a minimum wage will ruin this entire industry.
Well, they want baked bugs as their fast food, so it all seems to be going as planned.

This weekend I stopped at a Wendy's for the first time in years. My kid got a combo. I got a tea and a chicken wrap. It was $22!!!! WtF. And it took 10 minutes since they were deserted and had to drop a chicken patty for the sandwich.
