I've actually gone to them more since Whataburger went completely down the drain a few years ago.

Plenty of things you can blame on Biden, but this isn't it. It's merely capitalism to its natural conclusion - real time calibration of price according to demand.

It's interesting though because it almost positions them as offering a service rather than a good.

You absolutely can. The impetus for them doing this is because they can't afford to staff their restaurants with as many people as they used to because of labor regulations. Everyone is also having trouble with the demands of rush hour with less employees. This strategy (hare brained imo) is designed to make more money to pay their remaining employees at more competitive rates.

Does anyone still go to Wendy's? Man, they were good about 40 years ago, but they have really gone to absolute trash since the old man died.

The Peppermint Frosty in December was great.

Pumpkin spice one last fall was not.

How bad you got to screw up to now have to issue a retraction on this.

Some marketing dude goes to a conference and starts spouting off.

Media picks it up and runs with it.

They stepped in it.

I don't think it is that simple.
I think Wendy did have a plan to charge as per demand, and put the idea out there to see the reaction. It was bad, so they retracted and said it was never their plan to begin with.

They are not bad. I used to go to McD when I wanted something cheap. But McD has jacked up prices and not improved quality. I feel Wendy is slightly higher than McD in quality and have comparable prices. And they have some deals also.

I guess it's just that we have a crappy one. So often when we go, either the Frosty machine was down or they had already cleaned it (hours before closing time), so they didn't want to make us one.

And the burgers were so much better when I was a kid. They used to have square hamburger patties on a Kaiser bun. They were so good.

Whenever I get bad food below what I expect, I complain on their website. They usually send me free coupons. But I never complain if the food is what is expected as I don't like to cheat. But if they do a sloppy job or skimp or don't provide what was ordered, I don't spare them.

I should also say that I went one time when they were offering a "Bacon and Blue" hamburger with bacon and blue cheese.

When they handed it to me, I checked it, and said, "You gave me a 'Bacon and Blue' without any bacon or blue!"

Last year, on a Friday, during Lent, I ordered an egg and cheese biscuit with 2 hash browns from McD's

I didn't check.

I had a cheese biscuit and 1 hash brown.

Took a pic of my receipt and what I received.

I got coupons for free value meals.

Right. Everyone who says "this is just capitalism, you must support it if you believe in capitalism" is a victim of decades of brainwashing to believe that the only tenet of capitalism is increasing prices as much as possible, and damn the consequences. This isn't capitalism. It's just a dumb strategy to respond to minimum wage pressures in a post-COVID labor world.

Haven't been in, or even thought about, a Wendy's in decades. Now I'm thinking double with cheese, mayonnaise, pickles and tomatoes. It'll happen in the next few days…

Get ready for disappointment. It's not what it was decades ago.

Yeah I was in a pinch a few months ago and stopped at a Wendy's. Am I crazy or did they shrink all the food by a significant amount?

Wendy's used to be a good value. Now they're overpriced and mediocre. Taco Bell took lots of the stuff with fresh veggies in it off the menu and jacked everything up $1-$1.50 an item. Fast food continues to taste worse and cost more. On the bright side, it's way easier to blow off fast food and wait till I get home to make something. On the other hand, it pisses me off.
When I was in college in the 90's at Oklahoma State, I had a Wendy's directly across the street from the house I lived in. I lived on the $.99 menu. Jr. bacon cheeseburgers, double stack burgers, biggie cokes, etc. They were great and dirt cheap back then.

Isn't that how supply/demand is supposed to work? There's increased demand. Now, you can either raise prices to decrease demand during peak hours, or spend more resources on increasing supply to meet the demand. Wendy's has just testing whether surge pricing is cost effective for their business.
This isn't supply and demand. This is due to legislators raising minimum wage up too much. You're about to see a lot of low skill jobs disappear. Some places, like Wendy's, are trying to keep these people a job.

I ate at the one on Southwest Parkway all the time back in the day. I would get a Big Bacon classic and it would be my only meal of the whole day. Oh, to have the metabolism of my youth!

They were on their last leg last time I was there. The one on Holleman and 2818 closed awhile back.
