confirmed. this is another stellar plan.
Yes, aligns with what I heard.

'the RVs are concentrated in too few outfits. Some outfits have 6, while others have none. They need to be spread around more evenly '

But this has nothing to do with EQUITY...

The Trigon can't explain to parents/recruits why these outfits can only have 15 fish, when they have
a 100+ person request list, and then when the kid gets stuck in a crappy outfit, no one is happy.

Knock the experience down where everyone is the same, problem solved!

Again, if you want more outfit diversity in the RV's then address the culture of the outfits who aren't getting selected, not the culture of the RV's or the ones who have large numbers of participants. Stop punishing leaders for being successful leaders. It is literally the opposite of the stated goal of the Corps.

This commandant is ridiculous.

The most popular outfits people want to be in are the ones that are all male that smoke the fish with great prejudice.

There I said it. Sorry but it's what makes the experience.

This is 100% true. I was honestly disappointed in my experience. I expected to get smoked and hazed more than I did.

So if he suspends the RV's, does that mean he suspends Silver Taps and Muster? How's he gonna explain that to the families?? What a moronic idea.

And for the record the fish experience is having the fear of getting destroyed and then becoming crafty enough not to get smoked and becoming a hard ass when you do get caught.

Then you raise hell sophomore year and lead and give vision to the outfit your junior and senior year.

This is the way.

When I was there, we had FDT-heavy outfits, RV-heavy outfits, Cav-heavy outfits. It's always been like that and always will be.

As you build relationships with your buddies, you have common interests and you go after things commonly. Aside from FDT, this applies with RV's and Cav etc.

I don't see what's wrong with this. We had other outfits that focused on cords and inspections and grades. Screw that .

I don't get the problem that's being solved.....

Everything has been quiet since the response on Sunday.

Commandant supposedly had a meeting with the Corps of Cadets Association on Monday, but I have never heard what happened there.

I have been busy at work, and my sources have all been quiet this week.

I passed along that lots of people would like to see the Board of Visitors recommendations/plan in case any of them receive a copy / have a source for that.

This is from one of the cadet run meme accounts on Instagram. I am proud of our current cadets for these responses and it certainly aligns with I am hearing.

I encourage everyone to keep providing your input to the COCA, Trigon, BOR, and TAMUS administration.

I am surprised 18% of the cadets trust the Commandant. I sure don't.

The most telling statistic is that 82% of cadets would not recommend the Corps to HS seniors. That probably leaves the wrong 18% recruiting. The current Trigon leadership does not get it.

So has CCA changed their input stance on this? The last communication I received was that they "support the commandant", but that was before all of the backlash.

According to a classmate, President Welsh addressed the fish brigade issue at a recent Association of Former Students Leadership Council meeting, and said it ain't happening. He said that the Commandant is going to work on fixing the issues without taking such drastic measures. Welsh went on to say that 'Patrick learned a lot.'

Only 18% trust in the Commandant. Good luck earning the trust back. Also, over 70% would not recommend the Corps. Sad days. Commandant should step down or be fired for these stats alone. Ironically, he will kill the Corps rather than grow it if this continues.

I'd like to see the sample size of that survey. I asked my butt if he'd filled it out or knew people who did and he didn't. So he even asked the sample size. Not saying I disagree with the sentiments or results.

This is true. He said he wanted to choose senior leadership and then threatened to suspend them for 2 years. At the moment, RV's are not permitted to PT. This confirmed by an active RV.

So an E-1 Frog who wasn't an RV wants to get rid of the fish year experience and RV's for a couple years...just in time for his daughter to apply.

This is just crazy if true. Going to disband the Texas Honor Guard?! For what? And they can't PT? What's this guy's deal with no PT?!

I addressed the Commandant directly with an inquiry on the status of his plan to move ahead with Fish Academy given his only public response (memorandum) was intentionally vague as to the status of the plan. His brief reply was that the Chancellor has spoken on this. Did I miss a formal response on this by the Chancellor? All I saw was a screenshot of an email.

I've heard from current cadets recently whom indicate that nothing seems to have changed in terms of what has been communicated. They seem to feel like Fish Academy is still in the works.

The survey results posted above should have us all concerned regarding the impact of this playing out into the summer will have on recruiting for the Corps. This is a critical time.

I also heard that the recent assemblies of cadets have a low hiss when the Commandant takes the podium. I cannot fathom hissing the Commandant back in my day. I had way to much respect for the man and his staff. This is deeply concerning as this tells me that the cadets are not pleased and recruitment for the Corps is going to suffer directly as a result.

It is time for a clear, unambiguous statement on the status of 'Plan'. The current Corps should not be held in limbo or be in the dark.

I don't see how the commandant survives this honestly. Getting his plan unceremoniously and authoritatively shut down would massively (and publicly) undermine his authority to degree that would seem to be unsustainable.

The thing is, it's not just about the foolish plan he tried to implement. It's more than that. Fish can't push in their dorms. What?? Sophomores have very limited interaction with the fish. What?? Disband the RVs. What?? 72%of the cadets won't recruit highschool seniors. What?? He pulls the fish out of morning pt multiple times to lecture them on leadership. What?? Cadets are hissing him. Crazy!

Agree. People who want the corps experience don't want typical rotc programs you can find all across different American universities. The Corps at A&M was once defined as the hardest thing a civilian could do besides joining the Marines.

I just received the following email, which I assume was sent to all parents of cadets based on the part in bold.

Quote:

Howdy!
As you know, the Corps of Cadets is the oldest and largest student organization on Texas A&M's campus. Though we stand today as the university's premier leadership development program, it is important to recognize that this status was achieved through the enhancement and evolution of our organization over the years.

The needs of our nation are ever-evolving, but one truth never waivers: our country needs Texas Aggies to answer the call. Since 1876, the Corps has worked tirelessly toward producing leaders who can provide the innovative solutions our country needs.

The Quad and Texas A&M are home to something special, there's no denying that. Evolution can occur while keeping our time honored traditions and practices at the heart of all that we do. What we are working toward today is ensuring that the Corps experience remains rooted in what makes it special, while also making progress in ways that secure relevancy for generations to come.

A proposal with potential changes was put forth for discussion by the Office of the Commandant staff and cadet leadership. We are presently reexamining and refining the proposal, with three central questions driving how we move forward:

[ol]
  • How can we be more intentional and immersive in our leadership training and education program across the four-year journey?
  • How do we expand the leadership opportunities for every leader in the Corps, ensuring each experience provides both learning and purpose?
  • How do we reconcile the perceived disparity between the individual outfit experiences and overarching Corps standards and values, without diluting the identity that so defines the Corps experience?
  • [/ol]As we continue to evaluate avenues to enhance the Corps experience, your input as a parent of a cadet is invaluable. Please consider submitting feedback at the button below:
