The K-1 stuff is true. It was an outfit, that maybe wasn't for everyone, but took great pride in being physically tough and outperforming on any metric the Trigon could come up with, most importantly grades. They pushed and pushed their agenda looking for cracks in the armor but the outfit leaders and performance were able to stave off the bulls. I'm not sure what year they finally were integrated but now it is a frog outfit.

You're probably right. I deleted it. I've been seething on this for years now and HATE what has become of Texas A&M as a whole and especially the COC. The place is a liberal cesspool. My grandchildren will be encouraged to go elsewhere by me.

K-1 got ridiculous and sort of died when I was around in 2009. We had mad respect for guys that joined them and the other 3rd brigade outfits. They were tough as nails.

K-1 had 4 fish (my fish class had 20) and they all punched within a few weeks. So the pissheads sort of joined with D-1 that had 1 freshman. Since they all had on one fish in D-1 the D-1 fish (who was tough as nails) ended up just doing his fish year with L-1.

Then the next year I believe K-1 merged with D-1 and that was that.

3rd brigade consisted of E-1, L1, K-1 and D-1. We always called it "the last castle" due to the old school nature of running those outfits (and for other reasons). My non integrated outfit in 2nd brigade was a bit more professional about how we did things but we always appreciated their antics. And most of my buds outside my outfit were from those outfits. They also had solid representation in Parsons. Which is way more badass than being an RV.

I think they changed all the brigades back to battalions now which is better as it goes back to my granddad and dads years nomenclature.

I believe my freshman year was the last year for battalions iirc. 2nd Battalion, Animal House, WE HATE BQs!!

How does one become commandant?

Do they have to screw up really badly in the real military? Chose to build an outpost at the bottom of a valley (Netflix: Outpost style)? Accidentally explode an expensive piece of military hardware?

What level of idiocy does one have to achieve in order to be appointed that position?

I really don't know other than they cap out at 1-Star. There are interviews, which is obviously political and how they see you toeing the line.

I may be wrong but Professor of Military Science and some other positions under that are military assignments. Commandant is not. It a civilian position filled by the VP of Student Affairs. Commandant is retired. Bulls and staff are active duty

Yes, this is correct. Although going to a position as a military science professor seems to be a last hurrah type / no other choice type job as I heard no one that has career aspirations would ever do it. If that is the case, may be why we don't see the best of the best in the trigon bulls, unless they are old Ags finishing out a career.

Yes, I think Old Ags with a year or two left or a kid finishing up school are very common to come back as the last hurrah assignment before retirement.

I was meaning more like when you see a 30 year old captain/major (whatever they may be). A PMS assignment is not actually helping your career trajectory.

According to someone that served with him in the Army, he turned down a second star to retire at BG and take this role when it opened up.

As I remember it, pretty much everyone loved and had nothing but respect for COL Burton. Still do. Seems that things kinda went downhill from Malon forward. Correct me if I'm wrong...but maybe the search for stars/flags ain't what we should be looking for in a Commandant. Just sayin'.

The same could be said about Col. Betty…

That depends. TXARNG gets one of the APMS slots at A&M for an AGR officer (O4), and it is largely considered a great broadening assignment for career progression.

Other APMS slots, not so much.
