Agreed, boomers ruined the country. Time for the next generation to take over.
Sorry we spoiled you, gave you this technology platform you can whine on, and kept you out of a nuclear holocaust etc.

Gen X was front and center of the tech revolution, while boomers pilfered corporations through greed and fraud, eliminated pensions, gave themselves the lowest taxes in history, and exploded the national debt far beyond any hope of recovery. And now most of them are looking for the government to provide their retirement needs.

Worst. Generation. Ever.

Boomers created the tech. HTH.

And the rest of your post is bad and you should feel ashamed.

What information has come out that Trump had information that in the first eight months of the pandemic (the last eight months before the November 2020 election) Trump knew what we now know?

DeSantis did his own research and knew everything we know now by early summer. Why did Trump continue to let Fauci and Birx lead the messaging for months after that when anyone paying attention knew masks and lockdowns were pointless bs?

His chief advisor fauci (who in his own words says he has evolved beyond religion) had been elevated to cult status while Trump was being impeached and the heads of all the three letter agencies were communist sympathizers and traitors. All this was occurring just as the 2020 election was kicking into high gear. And I am leaving out a whole host of other extremely serious distractions Saint Floyd riot op, etc., etc..

A real leader who had actual courage would have figured out what Fauci was doing and demoted him/found a way to elevate someone who understood the correct way to handle it.

The voters have not had their chance to say anything yet. I thank Trump for pulling back the curtain and judge him on his results, which were great considering the forces aligned against him.

I am defending Trump because I think it is a mistake to trash him and will always believe he was cheated out of his second term But I plan on voting for Desantis in the primary, because I also judge him on his results and think it is time for a new voice.

Excellent post. If DeSantis had catered to people of your mindset he would have won over enough Trump supporters to beat Trump. Unfortunately, Ron is smart but not that smart. I differ with you only in that I am going back to what has already been proven, Trump has my vote in the primary.

I will happily vote for Trump if he wins the nomination and I think the ideal ticket would be Trump/DeSantis. I think that is the best chance the right has for hanging onto power the longest.

I admittedly didn't read through the entire thread, but am going to respond to your comment above, because some might find it interesting regarding Gen X (of which I am a proud member) leadership in government and business:

Quote:

When Bill Clinton was elected President in 1992, he was 46 years old and the first Boomer president. Three Boomer presidents and one Silent [born 1925-1945], would follow - but no Gen X'ers, even though the first Gen X'ers turned 46 in 2011 and half of the generation had passed that age by 2018.

As of 2023, there haven't been any Gen X vice presidents...The only Gen X'er to run on a major party ticket was Paul Ryan (b. 1970).

In 2005, when the average Boomer was 50 years old, 46 of the 100 U.S. senators were Boomers. In 2021, when the average Gen X'er was 50 years old, only 20 senators were Gen X'ers.

In 2005, 255 of the 435 members of Congress (58.6%) were Boomers. In 2021, when Gen X was the same age, 136 U.S. representatives (31.3%) were Gen X'ers.

In 2005, Boomers held 37 of the 50 governorships in the U.S. ...But in 2021, when Gen X was the same age, Gen X'ers held only 13 governorships...As we saw earlier, Silents, another small generation, still managed to gain about as many governorships and Senate seats as the larger, war hero Greatest generation just before them, and Boomers moved into politics at a rapid pace right behind them. Not so for Gen X.

Gen X'ers are not attaining leadership positions in business at the same pace that Boomers did, despite having more education. Boomers were 65 of the CEOs of the Fortune 100 companies in 2005. When Gen X'ers were the same age in 2021, they were only 23 of the CEOs of the top 100 companies.

And to your point that Boomers need to go on permanent vacation:

Quote:

Gen X is a small generation coming on the heels of an unusually larger one...Boomers' continued dominance in leadership is also due to technology and the slower life it affords: With people living longer, healthier lives, Boomers are working later in life and taking longer to retire. Until they do, Gen X'ers will not have as many opportunities to be leaders.

Or perhaps they never will be, if Millennials jump the line. Matthew Hennessey sees Gen X as the last bastion of moderation against a Millenial wave set to take over just as Boomers are ceding the stage...In the 2020's Gen X'ers have a unique role to play as ambassadors between the pre-digital Boomers and post-digital Millennials and Gen Z'ers...with one foot in the old physical world and the other in the digital ether, they will take the helm with an understanding of both the benefits and drawbacks of our technologically saturated culture.

I disagree completely. This is counter to the Constitution and while age does affect mental acuity in many cases it is not universal.

This does not solve the problem which I believe is lack of education. Much of the voting population seems to ignore facts and votes on emotion far too often.

Judging from his comments, he hasn't learned a damn thing. He thinks he did everything perfectly and if you put him in charge of another pandemic response tomorrow he'd execute the same policies. That makes him an arrogant dumbass and a sorry leader.

Not going to join in the generation debate, but I agree with the basic premise that Biden vs Trump is a pretty crappy menu to have to choose from. Neither party should be proud that this is the 'best' candidate they can offer. Neither of those guys would be considered fit to CEO a Fortune 500 company but apparently POTUS doesn't require any physical, mental, or leadership abilities. Just $$$ and name recognition.

You'd think a country of nearly 400 million could find two better choices but might have to wait to 2028 to finally turn the page to a new crop of leaders.

..............or maybe we really don't. That said, had a few good discussions with my wife, friends and colleagues over holiday libations the last few days and most of us agreed on this.

It is time for Generation X to run this country. It's well past time for the Boomers to go on permanent vacation and for Y and Z to see that X knows what it's doing.

My peer group finds it absolutely amazing that we are heading in to a national election and the most likely scenario is that two geriatrics are going head to head. This is the really the best we can do? This is the best we have to offer? What does the rest of the world even think looking at this sh** show?

The 2024 Election should be Gavin Newsom vs. Ron DeSantis. Even Newsom vs. Haley. Or Newsom vs. DeSantis/Haley. This election should pit California/New York against Texas/Florida. Republicans and Democrats should be demanding this. Yet we don't. Why? For better or worse, this is the future of the country. This is the battle for the soul of America. The other 46 matter, for certain, but they are details. Align behind one side or the other.

I don't like Newsom at any level. But he is smart, accomplished, young(er), and yes, good looking and charismatic. And successful.

I very much like DeSantis. He is young, a great family man, has served our country with distinction, his success in Florida is without question, and he is tenacious, smart, and driven. Sure, he's a little dry. Oh well.

This fight should be exactly what America demands for the future of this nation because this is the future of this nation. As much as I loathe Newsom, at least he is competent and on point. He can lead. Clearly the same for DeSantis and Haley. By contrast we are going to elect one of two morally deficient old men, one who has no idea what planet he's on and the other that is so consumed with himself he cares only for who kisses his ring.

If either Biden or Trump genuinely cared about the future of country they would back out and endorse both of these governors. Again, for better or worse, let them fight it out and let the chips fly. I would sleep very well at night with Ron in the White House. I would be somewhat less embarrassed to be an American with Newsom in charge than Biden.

Two other points.

Literally no one in this country except democrat voting geriatrics believe Biden is running anything.

Anyone with a functioning brain knows that Trump wouldn't be running the show either. It's almost as if some powers that be benefit from figure head leaders who really don't lead sh**.

We deserve a real fight by two competent candidates representing the future of the country, for better or worse. What we currently have is an absolute cluster F joke.

Someones's Generation does not matter to me, but their Ideology does. Values and morals have eroded for decades to the point we are at a societal collapse and economic disaster looms. That is not a Boomers vs Greatest or Gen X debate, but it is an ideology debate.

Currently there is a prevalent belief in socialism and utopia which is promised by the string pullers, i.e. Soros and Klaus, etc. The democrat party has been obvious about their leftward push, but the RINO party has been worse because they create the illusion of conservatism while marching along the path of Globalism right along with the dems.

I would welcome a young Gen X Y or Z leader that had decent values and a spine if they were not compromised or corruptable. I haven't seen too many. Perhaps DeSantis, but he is not proven to run a winning campaign yet.

If you don't want Trump as president, you better get busy in the DeSantis' campaign. There's lot's of time left. I'm just saying. Otherwise, you'll be writing your boy in. Push him over the finish line if you can. Stop with the complaining, ad hom, pejorative, lazy BS. Get to work and get it done. That's how GenX rolls.
Trump's entire identity is built on being a rude ***** and his supporters crow endlessly over how great he is at owning the libs. Complaining now that people are calling him and his supporters names is maybe the most stupidly ironic thing anybody's posted on here.
If pointing out ironies and ad hom is all the DeSantis camp has for Trump supporters, I'd say their candidate is looking pretty weak. Why?

Trump supporters will ultimately be the downfall of the country alongside the left. Conservatives have spent the last 30 years being attacked by higher education and the media. Voters saw the world changing around them and values they held onto being lost.

In response, a portion of conservatives fell into the instant gratification mentality. Who can bully my enemy? Who can be a dick? The long-term and even conservative policies no longer matter. Who can make me feel good today?

Trump supporters gave up their principles for entertainment. Some have even become more liberal without realizing it. The conservative movement is dying from within. And there isn't anything we can do about it.

I mean DeSantis is weak now. he made some cock-ups early and never recovered, and his campaign is obviously done at this point. But truth is none of team MAGA was ever going to defect from mean tweets to real, tangible policy victories. They'd rather loudly give the middle finger to libs than actually change anything (same mentality we're seeing with Gaza). They're all in on Trump and "owning the libs" through feckless rudeness paired with ineffective governance and nothing can change their minds. Not trillions of dollars of deficit spending or a shameless vote buying attempt right before the election or handing the keys to Fauci for nearly a year or innumerable grift attempts or idiotic suggestion that we need federal teacher certifications or the fact that he's a fat, fast food-addicted geezer who has a good shame chance of dying during his next term.

I'm through being polite about it, though. I'm not going to say you're an idiot if you support Trump but at minimum you're sure doing a great imitation of one
