I didn't see a thread on this but I only scanned the first page. Why on God's green earth was there a satan statue in the Iowa state capitol building? Good Lord - we are living in strange times. Off with its head!

The constitution is/was an easy target for communists to subvert/invert.

Ver very good thread on why this is:

The flames of the Imperium burn brightly in the hearts of men repulsed by degenerate modernity. Souls aflame with love of goodness, truth, beauty, justice, and order.

If you're going to open state buildings for one religion, you have to open it for all religions.

Keep religion out of government buildings if you don't want to see Satan or Allah worshipped there. You always have your own freedom of religion.

Here is a March article from the American Conservative:

There Is No Constitutional Right to Satanism
Quote:

There are two important concepts that rebut the idea that Satanism is protected by the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. First, anti-blasphemy laws were consistently upheld as compatible with free exercise of religion: According to the Harvard Law Review, "the blackletter rule was clear. Constitutional liberty entailed a right to articulate views on religion, but not a right to commit blasphemy the offense of 'maliciously reviling God,' which encompassed "profane ridicule of Christ.'" Throughout the nation's history and even into the twentieth century, the federal courts have consistently upheld state anti-blasphemy laws as constitutional. There is no binding precedent stating that anti-blasphemy laws violate the First Amendment.
It goes into more detail discussing definition of religion and some case law.

Not The Bee had a rebuttal to the Iowa Rep (and pastor) Jon Dunwell (and also pointed to the above article)

The Satanic Temple has placed a statue of Satan in the Iowa Capitol but this pastor-turned-representative says it's a-okay!

Lol no we don't?

That's not how It works in many countries, and idc who you are...I think rational human beings can draw a line at celebrating pure evil.

Thanks for the input, but take that moral equivalency nonsense & send it to the landfill.

Our constitution was founded by people that believed in a biblical God and not a biblical Satan.

You have rights to worship how you want but when the Congress opens up in prayer they don't open up in prayer to Lucifer

Neither does the supreme Court
At least not publicly

Why?

Said of our laws were biblically based

Except of course for that slavery thing... Of course Ben Franklin was also a tad immoral too. Most men/women are not totally morale (except for the saints), but I see your point. Evil is where you expect to find it.

A wholly morale people can have flaws. The flaws should not be celebrated or suggested as a right as a way to live.

If it is acceptable then why not put a statue worshiping slavery or the Nazis in the capitol building?

The SCOTUS screwed up when they started incorporating the Bill of Rights in the 20s. The 1st amendment should still only apply to the federal government. When the SCOTUS made that stupid leap to the states, they then had to contort themselves to justify arresting people for yelling fire in a theater and crap like that.

The obvious and logical answer is that individual States should still have the power to restrict speech and shouldn't need SCOTUS permission to ban yelling fire in a theater. Nor to ban guys like Charles Manson from verbally convincing followers to kill people. Nor to ban satan displays in state houses.

The fact that the SCOTUS made a dumbass decision generations ago is why we find ourselves arguing preposterous notions like if satanism counts as a "real religion". This would be a non-issue and an easy ban otherwise.

Does it matter who/what they're worshiping if it's part of their religion, though? I've seen plenty of anger and hatred towards Muslims for their beliefs and who they worship. What is the difference for Satanists or any other religion?
