My son is a 6th grader. They have been tasked with doing a TED talk and they have been given the topics that have to speak on. They have been pretty much been told they have to do a talk on how the whole is going to end soon because of climate change. His topic is global ice melt and rising sea levels. He was told he has to talk about how we are all about to be under water. This has him very stressed out because we have been talking about the facts for so long.
First off I have to address this BS with my kids teachers in an email. I am sure this will stir the pot to begin with. Then I need to help my son do the necessary research to help him. I actually just got done reading Michael Shellenberger's book Apocalypse Never and I have also read Bjorn Lomborg's book False Alarm. That helps me, but now I have to communicate this to my son.
Does anybody have any resources or points I should concentrate on that shows how we are NOT going to become WaterWorld in a decade?
My kids go to a Boulder Valley School in Colorado. I know, I know... take them out, move them, home school them. I wish we could do one of these, but it really isn't a choice. My wife works in the district and makes it very difficult to just pull our kids. And this economy has kicked my ass and my company I own has gone to ***** So we don't just have a ton of money to put our kids in some Christian school. Sucks I know, I just need to help my son get through this BS assignment. I also want to teach my son a lesson about sticking to the truth using facts and citing sources. Even if sticking to the truth means becoming a disruptor.
Thanks and Gig em...
