I think you've got 2 options:

1. Burn it all down and just give a total rebuke of this BS (professionally).

2. Give a presentation on the research that's been done, pointing out whose beliefs these are. And then mention something at the end along the lines of "while I do not align with these beliefs, this is what the leading spokesmen on this side of the debate say, I encourage you to take a look at the other side as well".

Start with the story of "Chicken Little", followed by actual climate change facts and history, then close with a series of incorrect predictions by all of the "Chicken Littles".

A lot can be done with a respectful refute to the agenda the teacher is trying to push. Have sources and keep things civil.

If the people who are telling us to worry about rising sea levels were actually worried about rising sea levels, they wouldn't live right next to the ocean. They would live in flyover country somewhere.

It's really that simple.

This isn't the "gotcha" you think it is...the forecasted rise in sea levels over the next few decades is measured in inches not feet. Right or wrong, they are trying to consider the impact on future generations, but also understand they will die long before it becomes a concern (if it ever does).

This is NOT what the alarmists are preaching. They are telling kids the whole world will be under water next year if Democrats aren't given absolute power today

Dr. Roy Spencer has a great site with all the information you need to present a well-documented case. I agree that he should present various theories and let the facts speak for themselves.

Every educated person knows this. It's the ice caps on land that have the potential to raise sea levels if they decrease.

Reconcile today's fears of sea level rise with the fears we were taught that the land is sinking from our use of groundwater. Subsidence and the looming ice age were the fears I was taught as a young lad.

I side with respectfully presenting science against the "climate change" models which are wrong every time.

Specifically seek refute to the materials the teacher has used in class. In other words, if the teacher used a paper by Jared Fogle to 'prove' man-made CC, present counter materials that document he's a proven fraud and pederass.

This sounds like a lesson on how to tell people what they want to hear, a valuable skill to have in life. In the professional world sometimes you have to stand up and say a bunch of things you don't believe with conviction. Giving a report on climate change is no biggie and making him research the other side's arguments (or lack of) will make him better informed.

The entire point is to *not* teach his son to be a weak man who will mindlessly go along with whatever authority tells him to do or say

You dont have to do any of that in the professional world. You have chosen to out of expedience

Here's a Danish site where they monitor sea ice extent.
http://polarportal.dk/en/sea-ice-and-icebergs/sea-ice-extent0/

Since DT45 was unsuccessful in trying to buy Greenland off the Danes, they still care about ice in the Arctic.

Look at the year over year data plots and then ask the question, what was it like 50, 100, 200, 500 years ago?

Present factual information. Cite PRIMARY sources. Focus on the rate of change observed and the variability if ice coverage affected by many factors, and that sea ice does not affect ocean level increase at all due to displacement. Only ice on land does. We ice merely indicates short term cyclical and variable climate cycles, generally.

Have your son talk about earth's history and the dramatic swings of the climate that lasted for 100s of millions of years For instance a time about 2.4 to 2.0 billion years ago when the planet was essentially a snow ball caused by release of oxygen from microbes that caused a chemical reaction in the atmosphere which reduced "green house gases" to a fraction of what they once were. Thus freezing the entire planet.

Then, for comparison, show a the timeline of humans on the planet (roughly 100,000 years) to that snow ball earth period of 100 MILLION years. Follow up with a simple questions for the teacher, "if we are searching for the ideal temperature and mixture of atmospheric gases, what should that number be? and what geologic period should we take the averages from? Do we include just the last 100,000 years or since the last great extinction event (65 Million years ago) or should we take in the entire past 4.2 billion years?

Finally have your son point to the giant yellow thing in the sky and scream at the teacher "the sun is the largest driver of climate in the solar system (not to mention the constantly changing orbit and tilt of the earth) . What makes you so arrogant that you think paying taxes to unelected "officials" will ever change that. **** off you un-educated freaking dirty blue hair *****."

My son is a 6th grader. They have been tasked with doing a TED talk and they have been given the topics that have to speak on. They have been pretty much been told they have to do a talk on how the whole is going to end soon because of climate change. His topic is global ice melt and rising sea levels. He was told he has to talk about how we are all about to be under water. This has him very stressed out because we have been talking about the facts for so long.

First off I have to address this BS with my kids teachers in an email. I am sure this will stir the pot to begin with. Then I need to help my son do the necessary research to help him. I actually just got done reading Michael Shellenberger's book Apocalypse Never and I have also read Bjorn Lomborg's book False Alarm. That helps me, but now I have to communicate this to my son.

Does anybody have any resources or points I should concentrate on that shows how we are NOT going to become WaterWorld in a decade?

My kids go to a Boulder Valley School in Colorado. I know, I know... take them out, move them, home school them. I wish we could do one of these, but it really isn't a choice. My wife works in the district and makes it very difficult to just pull our kids. And this economy has kicked my ass and my company I own has gone to ***** So we don't just have a ton of money to put our kids in some Christian school. Sucks I know, I just need to help my son get through this BS assignment. I also want to teach my son a lesson about sticking to the truth using facts and citing sources. Even if sticking to the truth means becoming a disruptor.

Thanks and Gig em...

I go the opposite of debating man-made climate change. Paint a picture of the world without using any fossil fuels.

Tell everyone in the classroom exactly what the world would be like if every draconian measure to save the planet was implemented.

Point out every last item of plastic in the classroom "All that goes away".

"How many of you rode a school bus? Gone. How many of you ate food? Well, maybe a third of you would have eaten this morning without natural gas derived fertilizers thanks to the Haber process. Plastic phones, plastic utensils, plastics everywhere. Gone."

"The United states has led the world in greenhouse gas reductions over the last 15 years. Down from 6 billion tons to 4.5 billion tons per year. In that same time frame, China has 4x its CO2 production to 11.4 billion tons and India has 3x it's production to 2.8 billion. It's high time to build an international coalition to stop the worlds greatest polluters"

The teacher might dock points for a poorly researched demonstration. At least as the theory goes, the main cause of sea level rise isn't the floating sea ice, it's the glacial ice sheets that sit on land.
Or... have him propose a theory that the weight of the extra water on the ocean floor will cause the land above water to be pushed up further and negating any potential for sea level rise. There is a much evidence for that as there is for any other global warming nonsense.

I would do a report on how many restrictive laws have been passed or regulations emplaced in the U.S. related to climate activism to demonstrate the loss of human freedom. Then I would report on how much money is spent catering to climate activism.

Together, this data will demonstrate the motivation for advancing the climate change agenda. It's the same motivation as most evil things in our world, money and power. A nice quip at the end might be that it is those at the top of the grift that get all the reward. Those that aren't getting money and power (like the teacher) are just mindless, gullible fools who have fallen for false idols.

That would be interesting to see what they predict, but I'm not sure what the point would be since most glaciers are on land, not water.

If it warms enough, sea levels will rise. That doesn't bother me. After all, we need to face the future, not just wish it will go away by waving some wand and saying "hocus pocus".

Have him talk about ice melt and global sea levels based on geology prior to man's existence. Then end with the questions:

What variables caused global warming before man?

Are those variables still at play, or go did they become static in last few decades?
