If this still doesn't move the needle for Desantis, which it likely won't, when will the party choose to coalesce around Trump? I'm all for vigorous primaries, but at a certain point you have to face reality.

Then the party is doomed.
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shot them in the guts.

It really is amazing that someone that has accomplished so many things in their life can be such a small person.

I guess the usual suspects are waiting for the talking points to be distributed to explain what Trump actually means here.

Honestly would love to meet her someday just to witness the crazy. Her Twitter and videos give off the most hateful bat**** crazy cat lady vibes I've ever seen in my life.

I am afraid the tw most vocal Republican groups are the never Trumpers and the only Trumpers. Both groups may as well be Democrats. If Trump wins the nominations the never Trumpers will, at best, refrain from voting and, at worst, actually vote for the Democrat. If Trump loses the nomination, the same will be true for the only Trumpers.

I do not see how a Republican win.

This is a pretty interesting move.

Rather than waiting until January for an endorsement, he gets it now and consolidates some of the support of Scott and Vivek in IA. They're not above 6% nationally in polling, but this endorsement likely means they'd lose the 6% state polling threshold in IA for the 4th debate (they need to poll above 6% in 2 diffferent early states). It then makes the 4th debate a heads up affair versus Haley and he can consolidate support from there.

Secondly, it'll probably keep Sununu from making a Haley endorsement, if it was in the works, since he doesn't want to split the non-Trump vote.

Yep - I'm currently neither of these. The best solution is for Trump to go away.

Republicans, especially if Trump "endorsed" the person at any point, are expected to owe him fealty for life.

If they dare to not honor what is basically a blood debt, Trump and MAGA considers them to be traitors. This is why they hate DeSantis more than they hate Biden.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Did you mention polls because there was about 10 just released showing Trump beating Biden in all the swing states?

Yeah they do not mean much right now, but this is a different election. Biden has shown to be a horrible President, a lot of his people will stay home this go around or vote for RFK & West.

There is one extreme on here and that is the DeSantis fans bashing Trump supporters.

He is 90+% going to be the nominee, no matter what dumbass stuff he says, I will vote for him in the general, because unfortunately he will be the best person running for the job.

Everyone bashed him in 2016 just like yall are doing now, and he was good president, probably would have been one of the best if not for Covid and if his base would have rallied around him instead of acting like idiots

Trump is going to talk crap about his rivals no matter what side during the primaries, he is what he is, an ass, but will be a good president and if the polls hold true, he will carry others to victory

Sorry, but 2020 was his best shot, and he blew it. He didn't have a fractured (by him) party and he wasn't reminding people why they didn't vote for him in 2016. It's 2024 and he's not gaining support, he's just alienating a lot of people again and he's doing it so aggressively that just not being Biden isn't enough.

He has screwed the pooch in so many ways (Covid is just 1), we absolutely need to cut bait and go a different direction. Buying some BS NYT or bought campaign polls isn't going to help us do what we need to do.

As president, what can Trump to policy wise that no other republican can do? Yes, I'm sure he says he can part the waters, etc. but I'm talking about legislation that requires more than, "So. Much. Winning." Executive Orders.

Yes, there's some polls released showing that Trump narrowly beats Biden in MOST of the swing states. (Wisconsin still has Biden with a small lead).

There are also polls released that show both Haley and DeSantis beating Biden in ALL swing states by greater margins that Trump does.

I don't bash Trump. But it cannot be denied that he's making this run more about him than he is the country. I don't doubt that he wants what's best for the country, but that's not top-of-mind for him. His narcisissm shows more and more each day. He's also burned through many possible good advisors - not based upon their abilities - but based upon his percieved loyalty to him. That alone makes me question his ability to lead in the top job. And add to that the fact that he continues to alienate more and more people in the tent as time goes on....

Don't get me wrong. I believe Trump has been wildly unfairly targeted and has endured more egregious treatment that virtually anyone in politics before him. But that fact in itself in not enough to support him this time around.

So I'm not quite sure your point.

I will not change my opinion of Trump having a better shot of winning this go around, if Biden is the Dem nominee. And if West and RFK are on the ballets, it only strengthens my view.

Honest question. What makes you think Trump would even be effective in 2024 as president?

He has few allies left on Capital Hill. There are only a few Senators that would identify as part of the MAGA contingent.

Most of his former Cabinet now oppose him. He'll have to completely restaff. With who I don't know. He'll be a one term president without a super majority.

The same tricks the Dems pulled on him last time (impeachments, lawsuits, judges overruling his executive orders) will be done again.

I can't see a situation where he is anything more than a figurehead.

If he wins, and the GOP do not get behind him than they will never win again.

Also if he wins, that will mean he carried GOP senators across the victory line, along with house members. And GOP will have control of both the house and senate.

Like it or not, the only way Republicans will win in 2028, after a Trump term (if he wins) is if they keep his hardcore rural voters and if the GOP fight him every step of the way, than they will have to deal with the backlash in 2026 and 2028

So if he gets nothing done, that will be on the GOP. He may be an ass, but like Dems do, GOP needs to turn a blind eye to it. Do not be a McCain. Get behind your President or lose

And what Senators has he talked crap about this go around? That is who matters on pissing off people and there is only one running against him in Tim Scott, who could be his VP

So I do not see him alienating his base all that much, he probably insulted Ted Cruz and Rubio the most last go around and I do not believe either fought him during his Presidency

Absolute proof of the fealty Trump expects, and not for the party, but him specifically. The interesting thing is Trump can't just leave it as 'oh well, good luck to you but we will still win'...He has to add that he's going to punish people who didn't bow down.

McConnell may be gone at that point but he technically could serve until 2026.

Murkowski and Collins are still there and will be. There are currently 49 Republicans. Trump needs to pick up at least 4 seats in 2024 to have a true majority.

Rural voters make up 20% of the electorate and will always vote Republican. They'll get over it if Trump gets the shaft.

Trump lacks even an ounce of leadership skill.

When he gets nothing done, assuming Jesus comes again and he wins, that's on that lack of leadership and nothing else.

Yet another reason Desantis is far and away a superior candidate, in every area of politics and out

If this still doesn't move the needle for Desantis, which it likely won't, when will the party choose to coalesce around Trump? I'm all for vigorous primaries, but at a certain point you have to face reality.

Trumpers: "Democrats are so afraid of Robert Kennedy they will do anything to protect Joe Biden!!"

Also Trumpers: "After only 1 out of 50 states vote then every challenger to Trump needs to drop out!!"

You realize the actual voting in the primaries is the end of the primary season, not the beginning, right? I like Desantis as much as the next guy, but if he doesn't win in the first one or two primaries (and the polling suggests he won't), he has no path to the nomination. Especially in a crowded field.

Maybe the polling is wrong, but it would have to be REALLY wrong. Trump was always going to have a nearly insurmountable floor of support if he chose to run again, and Desantis tried to challenge him anyways. It looks to be turning out about how one would expect.

I suggest you start looking at reality and being objective instead of letting your TDS gin up false hope. If things change and Desantis lands to nomination in the end, I'll be happy with that. But as things exist now, that's not happening and the incessant *****ing and moaning that the sky is falling if Trump wins is just plain sad.

Huge get for Iowa.

this race is not even started yet-

no matter how many times the Trumpers cling to mainstream media polls ("it's fake news unless it's pro-Trump!!)

Actually it's the same NYT poll they just keep pushing it. Very effective propaganda.

It's beginning to make me wonder if they (Trump supporters) are pushing these polls so heavily so they can dissuade conservatives from voting for anyone but Trump in the primaries.

A poll is not a vote. Trump was supposed to win Iowa easily in '16 and got trounced by Cruz. Many voters are just starting to pay attention. Many more won't get serious about who they will vote for until we are a couple weeks out from voting.

If Trump is up huge he will blow out everyone in the first 3 or 4 Primaries and it's over. If not then everything he has been pushing about inevitability is crap and he needs to actually campaign. We will see.

Just watched a sit down interview with her and DeSantis and how strong and delightful. She is electric in promoting him.

Has she been considered a potential VP to Ron?

Certainly she is on the list I would think as she checks the boxes. Youngkin is probably on that list as well.

DeSantis' campaign is focused on serious people with a calm demeanor and conservative values that focus on good governance. That's the profile.

Trump is too old. He already looks more tired and subdued than he ever has, it's just in contrast to Biden he looks effervescent.

Need to see primaries through. There's no guarantee that Trump will make it through them at 78 years old.
