America has been destroyed and replaced by a burgeoning marxist government. (I say this because we've lost free and fair elections and our Constitution is not being enforced)

Getting our country back should be the highest priority.

From the looks of it you are on the oppose/neutral side....and so are the stars. But our history shows that sediment can change quickly.

Probably should have asked in OP......What will it take for you to get 100% behind Biden and the "war effort"?

For instance.....rumors are circulating that a US soldier was killed in Syria last night. I haven't seen any confirmation. But there are all sorts of stories of bases being attacked in Iraq and Syria.

As heartless as it sounds, killing one soldier over in Syria isn't going to bring the US population into the war camp IMO. But at some point there is a number that could.

Losing more than soldiers 100, maybe? 1000 probably. Losing a carrier group to a hypersonic nuke would definitely do it.

I don't know about the OP, but there is nothing that would get me 100% behind Biden. His inability to lead is why the world is in the shape it's in.

He certainly contributed to it, but it started long before any of us had ever heard of Biden.

Unlike our Congressmen and women, I don't invest my money in death and destruction. I am simply looking at our country's history and seeing if it is repeating.

You and I view the current status way different. I believe we are already in a global war with China, Russia and Iran etc. I am sure the Russians view it that way, after all, over the last two years we've provided intelligence, weapons, cash, and support to a country that has bombed Moscow (repeatedly), sank their flagship in the Black Sea and attacked their nuclear bombers (repeatedly). Same with the Iranians when Trump blew up their top general.

All of those are acts of war. If the roles were reverse, I am certain most on this board would view them as such.

As far as my support of Biden. I might be convinced that we have vital interest in Ukraine IF and ONLY IF we have a full accounting of what he and his crackhead son sold to the Ukrainians for the cash he received. Until then, not a single dime should go there.

As far as the Israeli problem, we've given them billions upon billions over the last 50 years and being politically incorrect with a stereotype.....Shouldn't the Jewish people have the money to fund their own wars??? It's not like they are a bunch of gypsies. Let them pass the hat in NYC, Miami and elsewhere to fund it and figure out how to deal with their neighbors. Our interests should be limited to the hostages.

That being said, if the Russians decided to try get revenge for their flagship by sinking a carrier. I'd change my outlook. Probably the same with a full scale Iranian attack on military bases in Syria and Iraq or if Hamas starts killing hostages on public display. Not so much for a Chinese move on Taiwan.

I have mention before about my friendly debates with a Russian immigrant as a child and ended up being a lawyer. Good guy. He would debate the pro's about the need for WW to cull the weak and weak nations because they end up being the vehicles for corruption and oppression. The strong that survive want a world that allows people to live free.

This country has a LONG history of military actions throughout the world. The link has a comprehensive list of pretty much every conflict where we've been involved. Lots of little skirmishes are classified as "war".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_the_United_States

The big wars in our history seem to all have an well remembered event/scenario that switched public opinion from opposed/neutral to full warhawk mode.

Of course each conflict has all sorts of details and specifics that led up to the fighting but for the most part we have a definite starting points.
Quote:

Revolutionary War
The Boston Massacre was a deadly riot that occurred on March 5, 1770, on King Street in Boston. It began as a street brawl between American colonists and a lone British soldier, but quickly escalated to a chaotic, bloody slaughter. The conflict energized anti-British sentiment and paved the way for the American Revolution.

Spanish American War
On February 15, 1898, a mysterious explosion destroyed the American battleship Maine in Havana Harbor and helped propel the United States into a war with Spain. The USS Maine was in Cuba, officially, on a mission of friendly courtesy and, incidentally, to protect American lives and property in the event that Cuba's struggle for independence from Spain might escalate into full-blown warfare. "Yet," writes author Tom Miller, "the visit was neither spontaneous nor altruistic; the United States had been eyeing Cuba for almost a century."

WW1
On May 7, 1915, a German U-boat torpedoed the British-owned luxury steamship Lusitania, killing 1,195 people including 128 Americans, according to the Library of Congress. The disaster immediately strained relations between Germany and the neutral United States, fueled anti-German sentiment and set off a chain of events that eventually led to the United States entering WW1.

WW2
Pearl Harbor is a U.S. naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii, that was the scene of a devastating surprise attack by Japanese forces on December 7, 1941. Just before 8 a.m. on that Sunday morning, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes descended on the base, where they managed to destroy or damage nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight battleships, and over 300 airplanes. More than 2,400 Americans died in the attack, including civilians, and another 1,000 people were wounded. The day after the assault, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan.

Vietnam War
The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution authorized President Lyndon Johnson to "take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression" by the communist government of North Vietnam. It was passed on August 7, 1964, by the U.S. Congress after an alleged attack on two U.S. naval destroyers stationed off the coast of Vietnam. The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution effectively launched America's full-scale involvement in the Vietnam War.

WOT
On September 11, 2001a clear, sunny, late summer dayal Qaeda terrorists aboard three hijacked passenger planes carried out coordinated suicide attacks against the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., killing everyone on board the planes and nearly 3,000 people on the ground. A fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing all on board, after
passengers and crew attempted to wrest control from the hijackers.

I haven't seen any opinion polls but I am guessing the country leans against jumping into another conflict OR just don't care / they've got more important things to worry about.

The Hamas/Israel conflict seems to have shifted US opinion toward war-hawk but there doesn't seem to a large majority banging war drums. 10/7/23 (or is it 7/10/23?) will be Israel's kickoff event, I don't think this is going to be ours.

Big question is: What would it take to get this country to shift into full scale war mode? Would sinking a destroyer in the Red Sea be all that it takes or would it need to be a larger scale Pearl Harbor/9/11 type event?

Guy who like to shoot told me all the ammunition manufacturers in the U.S. have been told to focus on producing ammo for overseas. So ammo prices for domestic home gun owners has gone way up. I can't verify as I haven't shot for fun in a long time, but probably some posters on here can attest if they have seen the same thing.

In terms of 'full war mode', there will never be something again like WWII. It isn't like our economy and population is ever again going to shift into that level of extreme. Even post Sept. 11, Iraq War, etc. most Americans were just living their lives without missing a beat. We have gotten so efficient at killing people now. To me...a real WWIII is basically the End so I don't worry about that too much per se. It would be fast and furious and then nobody here would have to worry about posting on the TexAgs message board any more because all that would be gone.

Actually I think we should protect Israel and go to war with Iran, who was behind the attack on our ally. George W should have already done that in the mid 2000s during the war on terror but I think was side tracked with the 2004 election. How can a "war on terror" leave Iran unscathed?

But who is "we"? Our government has been overrun by Marxists. From what I remember, they are the enemy correct?

No one should ever expect the enemy to act in our best interests (and unsurprisingly they have made it perfectly clear that they will not).

As much as I'd like to see the crap in the Middle East sorted out, we have a MAJOR problem. I'd like to get my country back. Wouldn't you?

That makes for an interesting supposition

What if the US had gone all in sooner, in both wars?
It's an interesting question. For WW1 I honestly don't know. I haven't studied enough on that conflict to know. Perhaps it would have ended a bit sooner if we provided sufficient numbers to push Germany back out of France?

WW2... If we'd entered Europe sooner, could have have prevented the full fall of France? Could we have prevented the need for the British evacuation of Dunkirk? I don't think we had a reason to get involved sooner in the Pacific. Japan and China were of course going at it and we had been supporting China in the affair. For us to have taken an earlier involvement would have required boots on the ground in China? That sounds terrible. It's always been my understanding that Japan only hit Pearl hoping to keep our Navy out of the S. Pacific while they shored up their fuel and oil supplies .

We were certainly early entrants to both conflicts by proxy, just like we are now.
