G-League guard Bryson Warren commits to Texas A&M basketball

Bucky McMillan & Co. have received the commitment of G-League guard Bryson Warren as Texas A&M continues building its roster for the 2026-27 campaign. At 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, Warren averaged 19.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists as a starter for the Westchester Knicks.

Former G-League guard Bryson Warren has announced his commitment to Texas A&M.

At 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, Warren averaged 19.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists as a starter for the Westchester Knicks last year. He shot 42.9 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from 3-point range and 83.3 percent at the free-throw line.

Try to take some of these numbers with a grain of salt because the G-League doesn’t play much defense, so Warren’s shot diet won’t look the same in college. Still, he is a volume shooter. He averaged 15.9 field goal attempts per game in 32.8 minutes last year, including 11.2 3-point attempts per game. He averaged making more than four made triples per game, so it’s clear this staff projects him as the elite shooter to pair with the downhill driving of PJ Haggerty.

Warren was third in the G-League in 3-point field goals per game and 3-point field goals attempted per game. He can be the volume shooter A&M needs, someone who can also create for himself downhill and side to side, which was a trait Rubén Dominguez was lacking last year. Warren is not just a volume shooter. He’s a creator who can make things happen for his teammates, averaging 4.58 assists per game over the last two years in the G-League.

Warren went straight from his senior year of high school in 2021 to playing for Overtime Elite before joining the G-League in 2023. He declared for the NBA Draft in 2024 but was never selected, which led him to the G-League ever since. Until the NCAA completely outlaws G-League players coming to college for the first time, teams are going to take advantage, as multiple G-League players who never started their college eligibility clock have already committed to power conference schools this offseason.

Bucky McMillan and his staff have shown they will be at the forefront of roster construction, looking for creative ways to add experience to their roster. Last year, they added a 21-year-old European pro in Dominguez, and this year, they’re adding a 21-year-old G-Leaguer in Warren.

The Aggies worked in silence to quietly get Warren on campus during the middle of the week, and A&M beat Sean Miller and Texas in this head-to-head recruiting battle.

Warren is still waiting to be deemed eligible by the NCAA.

Another scholar…I'm sure he's excited to draft up his academic plan. Maybe the govt will swoop in and fix it all!

Hold the phone. " Warren is still waiting to be deemed eligible by the NCAA." I guess we'll see sooner or later.

I don't know why this is so surprising to me; guess I just never thought about minor league basketball being comparable to minor league baseball with teams all over the place.

Interesting. Still not sure how I feel about former professionals playing for college teams, but as long as it helps us...

I can't blame him at all. G League doesn't pay crap, and it's not like he got a NBA signing bonus since he was never drafted. He'll make a lot more $$$ playing for a major college team than he could in another year for the G League.

If the NCAA deems Bryson Warren eligible, he will be a good addition to our team.

So if he's deemed ineligible what's the back up plan here. Without Hill as well the roster may be dependent on freshman to make huge contributions. We are a big heavy team right now. Last years team may have just a bit more depth this team has more size forsure. I do think quality of depth is going to possibly take a small tick down.

Starting 5
PG-Haggerty
SG -Walls (Warren if he's deemed eligible likely start over Walls)
SF- Mgbako
PF-Phillips
C-Clemence

Bench :
Jamie Vension
Lukas Walls
Chris McDermott

Portal / Seeking another year possibly here:
Marcus Hill

Incoming Freshman:
Josh Irving
Neiko Mundey

I could be wrong, but I don't think the poster was questioning his intelligence. I think he questions his desire to be a student athlete, and just an athlete

Glad we have a coach and AD willing to go all in - worked with the Agee situation. Imagine how bad we would have sucked without him.

I don't mean to minimize it, but I believe he was valedictorian of Overtime Elite, which is a basketball league, media company, and private school all rolled into one thing.

Obviously it's up to the player, but I can promise you in this day and age of online classes, education/classes is an "option".

There's almost no chance Walls is a starter. If he starts, this roster construction went way south. I expect him to be closer to guy #10 than guy #5.

I've known Bryson since he was about 7. He played on the same soccer team as my son for several years and is an outstanding athlete. He dominated on the soccer field as a forward/striker, but basketball was always his favorite. He comes from a great family with an awesome dad and mom, and he's a very polite, SMART kid. This is an awesome pick up for the Aggies.

Silly point of order: Warren not a portal pickup, but a recruited signee. I guess....

That is super cool to be able to get information from someone on the forum with first hand knowledge.

Thanks for weighing in!

This kid never played college ball, went pro out of high school, and now is coming back here, to a better paycheck. I would prefer to view this as Scott Bakula coming to college in Necessary Roughness.

Sorry if this has been asked already. But if the Alabama g league player was eventually ruled ineligible, then how do we expect this to be allowed?

I did find it odd the article said defense isn't played in the g League. If it was trying to move up, I'd sure as hell play freaking defense. We aren't talking about all star games or something ...

I'm sure I'll get called out but I find all of this extremely ridiculous. Not sure why someone that has played professionally ball should be eligible to play in college. Yes, I understand today's NIL game.

Didn't Dominguez play professional ball over in Europe before coming to the Ags last year? How can this be that different?

Good point. And the whining and b---ing about it on this board was pretty significant at the time.

The only difference I can see is that the Alabama kid has an actual two way NBA contract. This kid was G League only to my belief.

He started playing pro ball when he was in high school, so he couldn't graduate in the conventional manner. Like I said before--I don't think you have anything to worry about when it comes to his mental abilities.
