It's useful tactically, block some tunnels ( at least temporarily) and focus on others. It's one less tunnel that a terrorist can pop out of

There's no reason to risk a wider conflagration until they are done in Gaza, at least with active operations. Let him return afterward, on their terms, and then wipe him out, whether it is in 3 months or 6.



Bringing a military strike, anyway, to Qatar/Iran/UAE etc. right now probably isn't worth the strategic risk. Those countries harbor plenty of enemies/targets, but are also happy to let the Israeli's eliminate Hamas as a practical matter, and could care less of course about the 'Palestinians' in the Gaza Strip as well.

Their goal is not to help them. Their goal is to force Israel to react the way they did, which put peace talks with the Arab world on ice. Iran does not want to see a united Arab/Israeli world because that puts a huge check on their influence in the region. They particularly do not want Israel to have normal relations with Saudi Arabia. The Saudis, if allowed to both economically develop beyond oil and to obtain more mitary support, would be the biggest check on Iran in the region. Israel would undoubtedly help them do both.

Just like most countries Iran sees the writing on the wall and knows the US is not going to be there en masse like they used to be. The new security situation is developing and Iran wants to be a power player. To achieve this goal, they need a fractured Arab community.

They also want to put a regional check on Turkey, whom they are not exactly friends with, either. An unstable Syria and Lebanon creates a buffer around Turkey just as much as it does Israel.

Letting Hamas communicate is a mistake

Not getting out of Gaza the moment Hamas starts parading hostages and bodies through the streets is a mistake.

Actually staying there under Hamas for the last 13 years says they sympathize, otherwise they should have moved to more sane West Bank

Saw a report that hostage negotiations are ongoing. If Israel's stated goal is to destroy Hamas, why would Hamas release hostages. Israel isn't going to let Hamas exist because 250 hostages were released. I don't see what's the point of negotiating for either side.

Who knows what they'd even give to Hamas in exchange but of course they want to successfully rescue hostages if there's a chance
