Let's think this through

the absolute best strategy would be for the Israelis to order all Palestinian civilians to leave north Gaza

then Hamas will flood the area with terrorists expecting an IDF ground assault

instead, the IAF launches 4000 bombs and flattens every single building on top of the tunnels

two days later, the Israelis order all the citizens in the south of Gaza to move to the North of Gaza

then blasts the South.

don't even launch a ground invasion just keep moving the civilians around and flattening everything behind them.

build tent cities on the rubble for the women and children

I would expect most of the Hamas fighters to mix in with evacuating Gazans. Why do they care if Israel invades and occupies the city? If I was Hamas I wouldn't fight the IDF straight up. Their strategy is probably going to be to wait it out and when the civilians go back to their homes start back up with guerrilla style tactics and try to kill IDF troops.

I agree with that but here is the sad reality

Israel can not kill their way through this- what are they supposed to do annihilate every male in Gaza?

just getting those 10,000 rocket launchers would be hugely degrading to Hamas.

they can pick off enough of the terror leaders to harm their capabilities for a decade

it's the Hamas storage, ammo and command tunnels to blow up, the missile launchers and missiles, the heavy weapons, control centers- that's the REAL objective

these terrorists are mostly just young fanatical Muslims- you can't kill every one of them.

I would rather save the lives of as many IDF soldiers as possible, save as many civilians, and still degrade Hamas so they will realize there is nothing they can really do for the next dozen years.

Or kill them all and they can do nothing for ever.

Seems like the intent is just a cheaper and faster version of iron dome, maybe specifically for shorter range coverage?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Beam

Quote:

Iron Beam uses a fiber laser to destroy an airborne target. Whether acting as a stand-alone system or with external cueing as part of an air-defense system, a threat is detected by a surveillance system and tracked by vehicle platforms in order to engage. The main benefits of using a directed energy weapon over conventional missile interceptors are lower costs per shot, unlimited number of firings, lower operational costs, and less manpower. There is also no interceptor debris to fall on the area protected. The cost of each interception is negligible, unlike expensive missile interceptorsaround US$2,000 per shot to cover all costs, against $100,000 to $150,000 per interceptor firing.
...
The system is designed to destroy short-range rockets, artillery, and mortar bombs; it has a range of up to 7 km (4.3 mi), too close for the Iron Dome system to intercept projectiles effectively. In addition, the system could also intercept unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Egypt has done this before: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-palestinians-egypt-tunnels/egyptian-flooding-drowns-gazas-tunnel-business-idUSKCN0ST1N620151104

Seems an effective tool albeit one that may have lasting effects.

Imagine fully flooded tunnels then setting off an under water explosive in one.

So which type of bedrock is underneath? So close to the Med, one would think the water table would be higher and tunneling would be difficult? What is the geological formation?

Scoop: Iran sent a warning message to Israel through the UN: we will have to intervene if the IDF operation in Gaza continues; The UN envoy to the Middle East delivered the message today to National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi.

bad google translate until he publishes the english article:
"A Western diplomat unaware of the details noted that the Iranian foreign minister returned specifically from Damascus to Beirut once more to meet with the UN envoy. This was the first ever meeting between the UN envoy and an Iranian official.
The diplomatic source stated that the Iranian Foreign Minister told the UN envoy that Iran is not interested in turning the conflict in Gaza into a regional war and is even interested in trying to bring about the release of the kidnapped citizens held by Hamas. However, the Iranian Foreign Minister made it clear to the UN envoy that Iran has red lines and if an IDF operation The conflict in Gaza will continue and especially if it escalates into a ground operation, Israel and Iran will be forced to respond."

As an American, the definition of "red lines" is, of late, unclear to me. Can someone explain what they are, and what they mean?

That would be incredible stupid for Iran to do, IMO. Give Israel a free shot at them? Forget proportionality, Israel will go full yard on them.

Been in the hospital visiting family a lot the past 2 days. Tv is on CNN or Fox News. Just amazing how they can take 24 hours to talk about something when nothing has really happened in 24 hours. They've been saying invasion imminent since last night.

One dude on Fox, the senior international correspondent, is funny to me. I forgot his name but he treats this like a sporting match.

I had the same thought on Fox's correspondent treating this like a sporting event. It was like the invasion was on rain delay.

There's zero incentive for Israel to rush into Gaza. I wouldn't be surprised, if Israel waits several more days to go into Gaza under the pretense of giving further time for civilians to evacuate. In reality though…

Every hour Israel waits is that much longer for Palestinians to consume the remaining food, water, and diesel. Not to mention, the mental fatigue those in Gaza have to endure while waiting for the fight to begin.

In a few days, the Palestinians will start fighting themselves for food and water. By the time Israel rolls into Gaza, the Hamas fighters will be mentally broken.

Americans leaving Gaza via Egypt has been halted again. Egypt wanted aid to Palestine as part of the agreement.

About 500 Americans now stuck in Gaza.

Which begs the question "what in the hell were any Americans doing in Gaza?"

Methinks these were probably not "Americans" from the United States so much as Palestinians who happen to have dual-nationality.

Israel gains more intelligence with each day as well.

The other concern would be Hamas fleeing the country while Israel waits, but I think IDF is watching pretty close.
