Okay, so doesn't Gaza have neighbors and we can maybe deliver goods accros land borders?

Why is a dock needed?

Because the Palestinians swarm the trucks and Hamas attacks them to try to steal the food, forcing the drivers to choose between running over people or getting shot or captured by Hamas. The drivers are no longer willing to cross the border and Egypt doesn't want to open the gates for fear of getting overwhelmed by civilians trying to enter Egypt.

Sooooo, the rest of the Palestinians should take out hamas, problem solved.

Agreed. I wasn't trying to rationalize the idea of constructing the pier/port, just explaining why the folks wanting to build it claimed it was necessary. To me it is just a floating target for Hamas rockets.

Hamas' Gaza death toll stats are pure fiction yet world media and leaders like Joe Biden still use them to smear Israel
By Post Editorial Board Published March 20, 2024, 12:18 p.m. ET

Huh: Those "Gaza health ministry" numbers on deaths from the Hamas-Israel war turn out to be transparently made up from whole cloth, as Abraham Wyner conclusively points out in The Post.

Which is a damning lesson on the credulity of the world media and the gazillion politicians across the globe who've been repeating the stats as if they meant something with no less than President Biden then falsely charging that Israel's tactics are "over the top."

Wyner's critique is damning: The daily reported death tolls rise in a straight line, about 270 a day which makes zero sense, since in any war, some days see far greater fighting and bombing than others.

Plus there's no correlation between the reported numbers of children and women slain each day (when most kids are surely near their mothers) or between the numbers of women and men.

Also, the ministry claims that 70% of the dead are women and children, while Hamas admits to losing 6,000 of its (male) combatants which would mean that almost no male civilians have been killed.

The obvious conclusion is that the ministry is just (clumsily) making it all up. It's definitely not presenting real info gathered from across Gaza.....

Hamas: "we don't know where the 134 hostages are and can't give you a list"

also Hamas: "we have no personnel in most of the Gaza Strip anymore, but can tell you the total civilians killed by Israel are 32,456"

The lack of logic for so many makes me laugh.

And this is just one example of the gaslighting that is occurring.

Probably a big mistake by Hamas to not give some indication that the hostages are still alive. If they don't know where they are and can't give anybody a list of who is still alive, eventually Israel will conclude that they are unlikely to still be alive. When Israel reaches the point where they believe that none of the hostages are still alive, the gloves will really come off for Hamas and the Palestinians. So far they have seen what it looks like when the Israelis show restraint to try to avoid the potential for killing hostages or other civilians accidentally. What it looks like when Israel doesn't care who lives or dies will be MUCH more ferocious.

Perhaps they can't give an indication because they're no longer alive. Israel might suspect the same but are exercising patience just on the chance that some still survive.

Even if they are not alive, it is in Hamas' interest to keep Israel thinking they are for as long as possible. Once Israel is convinced they are all dead, it only gets much worse for Hamas and the Palestinians helping them hide.

Oh I agree with you. Just think that hamas is mostly bluffing at this point. But it's a situation that we all face when dealing with a well-known serial liar. You know they're lying. You just don't know to what extent they're lying.

Ah ah. That was 4 military aged males in civilian clothes (not in Hamas uniforms and battle gear) that were clearly going to give aid and comfort to some hospital or mosque. Just as important as some of the 500 that were killed in the parking lot during that horrible hospital bombing.

So I see these things and I, like most reasonable people, think:

- How do they know they're youths?
- How do they know they're unarmed?
- How do they know they're civilians?

And as always, I view any of these stories and say: "Wow, Hamas really miscalculated."

The same way they know the Palestinian death count being accurate, despite the glaring statistical issues with the numbers.

The same way they know a genocide is occurring

The same way they know an occupation is occurring

The same way they know a two state solution would lead to peace

It's all over Twitter. I've seen the video and they just use drones to blow them up for seemingly nothing. They were just walking or crawling, obviously unarmed.

Drone warfare is a mass game changer. I don't think politicians or military leaders have realized just how much everything has changed. Once you cross this rubicon you can't go back. There are people who have built killbots in a few hours with facial recognition technology. Strap a bomb to it and you can begin assassinations easily.

The Israelis typically go above and beyond to ask innocents to leave their target sites (which they often don't) prior to destroying enemy locations. It's not their MO to just wipe out civilians. I'd imagine there was a pretty good reason that will be shared. If your initial reaction is to assume they're indiscriminately targeting civilians, you probably aren't going to change your mind anyway.

Why are some people so adamant about protecting their views on these things? That woman had lots of factual information presented to her and she just openly and blatantly did not want to understand the man's point. An open mind welcomes the challenge.

speaking of war crimes"

"Hamas, an Islamist militant group and the de facto governing authority of the Gaza Strip, has been using human shields in conflicts with Israel since 2007.

According to the Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), the war crime of using human shields encompasses "utilizing the presence of a civilian or other protected person to render certain points, areas, or military forces immune from military operations."

Hamas has launched rockets, positioned military-related infrastructure-hubs and routes, and engaged the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from, or in proximity to, residential and commercial areas."

oh look! the International Committee of the Red Cross has something to say about Hamas using civilian clothes to hide their attacks!

In international armed conflicts, combatants have an obligation to distinguish themselves from the civilian population and this can be achieved by wearing a uniform.

Therefore, members of the armed forces engaged in or preparing an attack without wearing a uniform and/or failing to carry their arms openly are not entitled to the status of prisoner of war.

The feigning of protected status by wearing the uniforms of the United Nations or of a neutral or other non-belligerent State is prohibited by IHL.

Sounds good to me. I'd hate to have to rely on Biden/Blinken and their brain trust/cabal to make the hard/right choices in a war for survival (or for that matter even a proxy war).

Was it Former Defense Secretary Gates that said one of those two men had been "wrong on every significant foreign policy issue for the past forty years" or something like that? Past performance is no indication of future success, but I know whose advice I wouldn't seek out or follow if I were the Israelis.
