Maybe I misremember, but I think that I read an article on the current START treaty (or something similar) that keeps the US from carrying a full complement of SLBMs on the submarines.

As for warheads, with MIRVs there can be far more warheads than missiles.

So it doesn't seem clear that the number of missiles or warheads carried on a submarine these days would be well known numbers.

Am I wrong about this?
