Even the original article said this question was "investigated by Special Counsel Smith." It was a leaked story to harm Trump. But even Smith knew it was BS and never charged Trump with actually doing it.

One reason pushing the trials back until after the election is risky because this type of bogus story will continue to be leaked while Trump is under a gag order. There would be an October Surprise every few weeks.
