If you're like me, and wonder why small trucks today are bigger than 1/2 tons of 20 years ago, or why a half ton now is the size of a small house, here's why.

Here's the most Government thing you'll see today. EPA CAFE standards are what's driving trucks and SUVs to be bigger and bigger.
That doesn't make sense? Well, of course not, it's the government.
This should be no surprise to those of us who remember about 20 years ago, when the government would allow advanced depreciation on 3/4 trucks, but not on luxury cars. So what did the real estate agent do, who used to drive clients around in Cadillacs? They switched to 3/4 and 1 ton Suburbans.
tl/dr, (or too long didn't watch) the bigger "shadow" a truck casts, the lower the gas mileage standard.
Wheelbase x wheel track = shadow.
