The WH press release mentions "Operation Atlantic Resolve."

In other words, WWIII in the Ukraine. Seriously.

I am IRR and never thought anything could activate my old buttocks. (I haven't received any notice... yet).

I'd rather go than my draft age sons.

Ditto for me and I think the fight should be with the real enemy.

Concur with this explanation. Still points to a larger buildup in Poland of US combat power which is a dangerous road to advance down, especially with the National Command Authority we have calling the shots. These IRR calls are not for combat troops………yet.

I've provided a bunch of links over on the 'other perspective thread.' Briefly it's not the 3,000 being authorized to be activated for logistical support of the war in Ukraine from the IRR that is the 'big deal' but rather the beginning of a process. We didn't have to activate many IRR folks for Iraq, for instance. From the order:

Quote:

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including sections 121 and 12304 of title 10, United States Code, I hereby determine that it is necessary to augment the active Armed Forces of the United States for the effective conduct of Operation Atlantic Resolve in and around the United States European Command's area of responsibility.
Further:

Quote:

Operation Atlantic Resolve is the name for the U.S. military response to Russia's Special Military Operation. While the number of troops being activated and deployed is not large, is Biden making a direct threat to Russia that is likely to elicit a very unpleasant response from Putin.

In terms of bolstering U.S. military capabilities this is a nothing-burger. But it is the symbolism and the thinking behind this decision that is frightening. But this is not all.

According to one of my retired CIA buddies, at least two B-52s are on the ground at an U.S. Air Force in Alaska. This is highly unusual, according to another old friend who flew B-52s. Moving these planes forward to Alaska is stupid saber rattling. This is not going to assuage Russian concerns about Western intentions, it is going to move the Russians to hair-trigger status.
Don't take my word for it, listen to Nato and FJB:

But it's just administrative, for now!

everyone should be required to serve 2 years of active duty.

I used to think that….but with the abuse of power with Biden…..nope. No way.

This would be a great question from a journalist?

If this group is deployed to Poland….will they carry loaded weapons and have ammo for their troops or will there will be no ammo.

I'm sure there are a bunch of posters on the Ukraine thread ready to deploy.

What's worrisome to me is the parallels to the escalation in Vietnam. Are we approaching the "Americanization" of the Uke-Russo War?

How is sending US troops to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia Bulgaria, etc.), a practice we have been engaged in since 2014, an escalation, much less one that "parallels" Vietnam?
scroll up.

I did, and the notion is beyond ridiculous.

The return of the Domino Theory?
Yes, I've posted on that elsewhere. Essentially, we are at the beginning still waiting for an official MACV-equivalent of advisors in-country, which probably can't happen until after November 2024 (our own officials such as Milley have admitted the US election timing is key to many strategic planning considerataions). "Ukrainian-izing" the final retreat would follow 5-10 years later.

OSintDefender is wrong. I took IRR troops to Iraq in 2010.
